  1. Explanation Music has power

Music is an art that is equally popular with young people. Not only that, parents also like it. Because it is so popular, the Media Info Center (2005) stated that adults over the age of 18 spend an average of 21 hours per week listening to music on the radio. Art can also be interpreted as a beauty that is found in the elements of life. Everything in this life can be categorized as art.2. There are many types of art, one of the many arts is music.3. According to Jalaludin Rakhmat (2001: 268), music itself is a beautiful arrangement consisting of lyrics, notes, and rhythm4.

A, Music Media Affects a Person

When these three elements are combined into one, a beauty called a song will be formed. Far from the function of music as a work that presents beauty, music can also be used as a medium that influences human thoughts and behavior.6. According to a study conducted by Cevy Amelia & Yenni Aryaneta, music can influence humans. The following are the effects of music on us: with music we don’t get bored while studying; increase creativity in thinking, increase vocabulary; make you relax and calm; the learning being studied is easy to remember; eliminate nervousness and stress.7.

    2. Music Media Pours Out Someone’s Expression

Music is not just certain high and low notes, with a certain rhythm, loud or soft, fast or slow, but it is a language or outpouring of someone’s soul. all packaged in the expression of conveying the message when the musician sings it. Expression is the way someone brings a song in terms of adjusting to the nature of the song. For example, relating to the speed of the song, the strength or softness of the song, and the meaning of the words of the song.10.

3 Music as a Communication Tool

All can melt the sensitive human heart. Therefore, music is one of our media to communicate in one direction. In the study of Content, music has a tone for each country and it is also influenced by that which is used in the song that is created. In its composition, Music is a language that contains universal elements, namely the use and selection of poetic language that can be understood and enjoyed by many people, not only certain groups or not only based on gender, race, religion, and nationality11.

    4. Music as a therapeutic tool

Other applications of music can also be found in the health sector.

    • First, Grahn & Brett (2009) explained that music can help Parkinson’s patients improve their motor movements 12. Parkinson’s patients are able to make more movements when listening to music. 13. Not only that, another benefit of music is the existence of music therapy which is starting to be used in the fields of psychology and psychiatry14.  Research by Chang, Chen, & Huang (2008) shows that music therapy can reduce anxiety, stress, and depression in pregnant women. )
    • Second, Music can improve the Quality of Life. Then the research of Maratos, Gold, Wang, & Crawford (2008) showed that music therapy is effective in improving the quality of life (Grocke, Bloch, & Castle, 2009) 15. Another study conducted by Labbé, Schmidt, Babin, & Pharr (2007) explained that listening to classical music after being exposed to a stressor significantly reduced negative emotions and physiological arousal when compared to listening to heavy metal music or just sitting in silence. 16. Music therapy can also help individuals cope with anxiety by developing awareness of their emotions and helping them balance their id, ego, and superego in a healthier way. 17. Music therapy aims to help individuals express emotions that are difficult to express verbally, such as sadness, anger, or pain..18
