Bugger, it appears The Proms has crept up on me again this year. I alway forget for sum reason, bit of a blind spot for me? Thanks to BBC Sounds for suggesting one of my faves, the 'ole Ludwig Van's Glorious 9th (as Alex puts it), really gets the krovvy flowing, and never fails to bring a tear to the glazzies!

Last night, I listened live to the Proms, with Mark Elder and the Halle. Mahler 5 was excellent, but I also *really* enjoyed the James Macmillan premiere, Timotheus, Bacchus and Cecilia.
Tonight I'm catching up on Friday's Prom. And another premiere, Ben Nobuto's Hallelujah Sim. Witty, engaging - I loved it.
It's so good to hear entertaining new work!

Things like #TheProms are why I’m rabidly pro-BBC.
Could you imagine Global running the numbers on an 8 week festival whose primary aim is to democratise orchestral music, and then choosing to actually bother? At best they’d give it a week, on the proviso that it was all sponsored by fucking Lexus, or some shit.

Listening to the National Youth Orchestra playing Copland's Third Symphony at #TheProms and it has been a little ray of sunshine.

Jesus. Prom season. Was always the marker for the school holidays when I was young with the first night inline with starting the summer school break and the last night of the proms coinciding with going back to school.
Even now the last night fills me with just a bit of dread like that trauma is retained in my body.
