Just another opinionated PSA:
#Golang is fun to write and easier to learn than #Rust
I got sidetracked by the Rust hype for a while until #ThePrimeagen pointed out that Rust isn't a fun language for him.
I realized that it also applied to me.
If you enjoy Rust, go ahead, more power to you!
I just wasn't very productive with Rust and I never needed to do anything complicated to begin with.
So these days I just write some CLI utils and backend stuff in Go and am thoroughly enjoying it!

Not because Microsoft's reqs for W11 disqualifies hundreds of millions PCs from upgrading. It will help, but not as much as many hopes.

Currently my #nerdmachine uses Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, and without having to compile from source: Snap seems to be the only choice to get latest stable #neovim on it.
For #apt - including other PPA's - I could find nothing newer than years old 0.9.5.
So snap it is!
Now to let the one-and-only #TheVimeagen (AKA #ThePrimeagen) get me properly started:

No, seriously. I like home automation, but it annoys me so much that most off-the-shelf home automation devices NEED to connect to an Internet server, so that you can control them FROM WITHIN THE APARTMENT.
This is so unnecessary, you pretty much have to build it yourself if you want it done right.
And don't even get me started on every IoT manufacturer trying to lock you into their ecosystem 🙄.

The whole #Wordpress and #WPengine mess remains very interesting.
Eespecially with #ThePrimeagen ranting that "WP Engine must win this, or Open Source in business is finished."
I think that if Wordpress / #MattMullenweg winning against a foul player of Open Source and non-contributor to Free(dom) Software would make clear, that taking licensed software earning 100s mm USD without returning something will cost you dearly.

The #Rust community has a problem where they think they are sich Chads that they know everything because tHeRe cOdE iS tHreAd sAfE.
So now you have a bunch of guys, normally just developing libraries, thinking they have a core understanding of creating actual programming languages.
Other languages like #Go and #Python handle this better by having mature, transaprent, and well socumented discussions. Not just a bunch of Chads on a Discord server and a cult-like following to #ThePrimeagen.

Interesting thought from #theprimeagen. Copilot and co will produce a new generation of crappie engineers.
Jip, will happen. #gpt can become a new #hibernate orm kinda thing. Only it creates full programs, not only sql statements, and you will need to hire prompt engineers to fix what is not fixable.
Ai tools are good for skilled devs to get feedback, but bad to become a good engineer.

@kellogh The flat view of the file picker is fine for me since I only need the fuzzy search and that works on partial folder names and files. There are so many other plugins that I would miss like undotree, table-mode or harpoon by #ThePrimeagen. But the biggest hurdle is that I will need to unlearn vim. I simply cannot switch in my head.
