I need papers on rules how trees grow. Things like ratio from branch to subbranch in lengths and positions on the parent branch. Or that needle trees don't tend to split into even subranches. Also their angles etc.
Basically rules to use in Lindenmeyer Systems to make plausible trees.
I want to make an open source speedtree alternative.

The predominant approach in Biology is - "Let's see what is there in nature."
What if we ask the opposite - "Why don't we observe this particular property/phenomenon in the living system?"
This is something similar to what Bernard Shaw said - "You see things and you say 'Why?' But I dream things that never were and I say 'Why not?'"
Will this approach lead us to develop more 'Theory-driven' research in Biology?

An old article but worth to re-read and remind ourselves that we need to go beyond Data and develop generalised 'Theories.'
Rightly said - "Seeking to be led by theory and knowledge will probably require shifts in research culture."
But we also need to change the way we teach Biology at schools & colleges. We learn to 'Think' and 'Generalise' early in our education.
