CW: I watched The Old Guard 2 last night and need to vent (mild mid-movie spoilers)
I loved The Old Guard. It is a great action movie that built a world with coherent rules. Then in The Old Guard 2 (written by the same person) they undermine all the previously established rules.
In the first movie the rules were basic and made sense: All immortals are aware of each other; why a select few have immortality is unknown; and eventually (after 100s or 1000s of years) an individual's immortality will fail.
In the sequel: There are two new immortals that have always existed; there is a prophecy about killing immortals (ffs how is there a prophecy about people that noone knows exists in a world where mysticism/prophecy have never been mentioned); immortality can be transferred to someone else if an immortal decides they want to be mortal; some bullshit about matching birthmarks (???) meaning someone is the last immortal because some newly introduced character just knows; and now there's a retconned curse that the last immortal created will kill all the others.
WTF! Why can't we just have nice things -

Just watched #TheOldGuard on #Netflix for probably the third time. It's such a good superhero/action film: wonderful, diverse cast, good writing (OK, it ain't Shakespeare, but hey, it's an action film), lots of great action, and Charlize Theron is her usual kick-ass self as the strong female lead.
And, yay, it looks like the sequel they teed up at the end is in production. Can't wait!
Now, if someone would just make a sequel to #EdgeOfTomorrow …

If you have not seen The Old Guard on Netflix, you are missing a gem of a movie!
🚨🚨🚨 Slight Spoilers‼️ 🚨🚨🚨
The Old Guard is about vigilante immortal warriors attempting to help the world from the shadows.
What I loved about this movie (beyond the action scenes) is that it showed the psychological issues that would come with being immortal (watching your children & grandchildren & lovers die of old age) as well as the difficulties of dealing with deadly encounters (dying is very traumatic).
What I did not like about the movie was that I wish it were a series instead so that we could have explored or rather seen more into the lives of each character.
For those wondering, The Old Guard Sequel is coming out next year in 2024, although due to the various strikes in Hollywood, we may not see this finalized until the latter half of 2024.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
There's something wonderful about found family movies that take place in a terribly unjust world where the characters' actions have a much bigger impact on the world than they realize.

Actually, thinking of rogues in fiction, it occurs to me that #TheOldGuard #fanfic might be worth checking out. I thought the whole villain scientist and torture plot was incredibly bad and lazy (why do fic authors research their worldbuilding better than many movie writers?), but I absolutely loved the #queer #FoundFamily of immortals with the badass leader who's keeping dangerous secrets. I think I'd be most interested in gen fic about the group, not in slash fic.
