A Writer’s Playlist – The First 15
“I’ve got chills, they’re multiplying . . .”
Ever had that feeling when you hear a song? A buzz? A kind of high? The muse strikes and it seems the words can’t stop flowing within and out of you?
I’m in the car or lost in a world of headphones. Surround sound. I go to another place. A door opens. Words, lyrics, poetry, ideas – all come rushing in. The pages and cassettes I have filled with these endless fragments are a testament to these epiphanies. The muse is inspired by other muses.
Something shifts in my brain. I move into an altered state, primed for creativity. To harness this power particularly for longer writing projects, I put together a playlist. In looking over them for this post, the commonality seems to be that the songs are of a self-reflective and/or encouraging nature, the combo quite necessary in the midst of the slog of long writing. Several tell a story, often with an air of mystery or lack of resolution.
