Today I learned Rowlf the Dog is older than I am. He was one of Jim Henson’s early Muppet creations after Kermit the Frog.
Since I never saw Rowlf on Sesame Street, I assumed he was created as part of The Muppet Show in the 1970s. Turns out he first appeared as a spokesman for Purina Dog Chow in 1962 and was later a regular and popular character on The Jimmy Dean Show. He was the first Muppet to appear regularly on TV.

Anyway, time to make dinner. I enjoyed it. If they can keep up this quality level, I'd definitely enjoy more. I worry about that.
But since nobody's really tied to a weekly schedule anymore, why not... I dunno... why not one a month? That'd give them a lot of time to get each one right, and give some nice gaps between so it doesn't wear out its welcome. That was part of what made Columbo work so well - it wasn't weekly, it was a new episode every three weeks or so.
A new Muppet Show, once a month. Dumb gimmick, or good idea?

So we did see the new Muppet Show one-off and believe me that this is neither light nor back-handed praise when I say:
Yep, that sure was The Muppet Show.
Actually pulled it off. That was a Muppet Show. Dang.
The best segment was the new episode of Muppet Labs. It's not Muppets if it's not a little fucked up and that was exactly the right amount of fucked up. If this is the Muppet Show they're gonna put out, I hope they put out more.

I recommended #TheMuppetShow special to my 9yo, who said, 'Isn't it for 5 year olds?' and then 'Isn't there a pig in it?'

I loved and grew up watching reruns of #themuppetshow and thoroughly enjoyed the pilot special that's just come out on #disneyplus but if it gets picked up for more I hope they have some ideas to keep it interesting.
This special leaned very much on the old formula, which unless the guests are amazing might not interest a modern audience.
