My last post was inspired by this novel, The Keep, by F. Paul Wilson. The film by Michael Mann with Scott Glenn, Gabriel Byrne, Jurgen Prochnow and Ian McKellen was reasonably true to the story BUT as in most cases the book is better! The synopsis is(from Wiki): Set in Romanian during WW2, it follows a group of Nazi soldiers who unleash a malevolent supernatural force after setting up camp in an ancient stone fortress in the Carpathian Mountains. #fpaulwilson #thekeep #horror

#31DaysOfHorror recommendation for today is The Keep.
Director Michael Mann may dislike it, and it's not entirely successful, but it's an atmospheric and intriguing @horror movie almost unlike anything else I can think of.

"Original Blu-ray cover art illustration commissioned in 2024"
The words "Vinegar Syndrome" were part of the URL.

While jacketing my F. Paul Wilson books (first editions of both "The Keep" and "Black Wind"), I was astonished to discover that "Black Wind" was autographed!

The Keep has never been released on DVD or Blu-ray in the U.S., Europe or Japan. There's a laserdisc release, a single remastered DVD in Australia ... and this 480p streaming version we just watched.
Dream-like and moody with a legit Tangerine Dream soundtrack, this is quite the treat for horror fans -- reminding me of The Shining and Blade Runner.

An indie game that REALLY reminds me of some first person RPGs my neighbor and his dad liked in the 90's. Like then, I'm not that great at them.
Combat sucks imo.
It's 10× the price, but there is a Japanese series on the #3DS that does this far better.
Pass.
