#TheInvitation, on #Netflix, is a bit of a different take on a genre.
Unfortunately the third act thoroughly betrays the promise of the setup and devolves into pure foolishness and a tone that ends up entirely divorced from the first two thirds of the movie.
This could have been really something fresh and meaningful—a commentary on class, power, patriarchy, and more—instead, it's a sloppy mess only worth watching as mindless entertainment.

I enjoyed #TheInvitation.
It was creepy, engaging, a lil sexy; and, I enjoyed seeing a Black female protagonist in a supernatural horror movie (which is pretty rare.)
Also if you're a #Dracula nerd there's tons of Easter Eggs, had me #infodumping on my fiancé lmao.
IMO #TheInvitation offers a good faith attempt at #representation. I think the relationship between the Black protagonist and her Black best friend was authentic; *but* I do have colorism concerns.

#Hush is an insanely good thriller about a deaf mute women in a home invasion situation.
The #FearStreet trilogy.
I notice #TheInvitation (2022) is now available on #Netflix. I've not seen it yet, but it comes highly recommended.
#ChooseOrDie was a solid horror flick.

While searching for what I referred to as "nevertheless, she persisted" horror films, I found The Invitation (2022).
A great horror/thriller film, with some decent "final girl" energy - at least towards the end. It wasn't quite up to par with similar films like Ready or Not (2019), but I still very much enjoyed it.
That being said, having The Shredder from TMNT officiate the weeding did kind of seem like a stretch too far. 😝
