"Niezwyciężony" to prawdopodobnie najsłynniejsza książka Stanisława Lema obok "Solaris" i "Bajek robotów". W 2023 roku otrzymaliśmy jej gradaptację w postaci debiutu studia Starward Industries złożonego m.in. z weteranów CD Projektu Red, Techlandu czy Bloober Teamu. Choć zebrała dobre oceny, niestety okazała się komercyjnym rozczarowaniem... i nietrudno zrozumieć, czemu do tego doszło.
No bo tak, The Invincible to symulator chodzenia.
The Invincible jednak najbardziej urzeka oprawą audiowizualną. Regis III oferuje zróżnicowane środowiska i obok rozmów trzon gry stanowi oglądanie przepięknych widoków.

After playing #TheInvincible made me think about reading #StanisławLem, I remembered this #Cyberpunk2077 Screenshot I took after finding this #book by #ErnestHemingway #ForWhomTheBellTolls which I still have not read but still.
What games made you read books you would not have thought about? I am sure there are more great examples.

Gotta agree with this. Just finished two endings of #TheInvincible tonight on stream and while there's some late game pacing issues and a few quirks, it was a fascinating, memorable game that not only has an interesting hard sci-fi story, but frequently has visuals that resemble 1950s pulp sci-fi novel covers. Several jaw-dropping landscapes that I've never really seen in a game before.
IGN giving it a 5/10 is not only insulting, but an opinion formed by a reviewer who's machine rendered it looking like complete ass. (They did note this, at least, but refused to adjust or even discard their review beyond the addendum.)

The Invincible (Multi, XP'd on PC/Linux)
Based on the classic novel, you play as Yasna, a biologist, who wakes up on an alien planet not quite sure how or why she got there. After reestablishing contact with her orbiting Astrogator, she sets off to find her fellow crew on an eerily quiet and hostile feeling planet.
This is a HardcoreTM Waking Sim. Sprint nets you like a 10% speed boost, lol. However my time to credits is 9hrs, so it's not a long game, but it can be SLOW. It didn't particularly bother me as the rest of the presentation more than made up for this, but yeah, just know you'll have to be patient.
The story is great. I don't really recall much from the book as I read it decades ago, but the whole game felt pretty familiar to me so I'm guessing they've done a creditable job sticking to the novel, while retrofitting it into a game.
The acting is great. All the people you interact with feel "real", they have depth. You find plenty of lore across the areas that fills out the story, quickly giving you the ability to empathize with and care about the characters.
The SFX and music are great. The music sets excellent moods for all the beats of the story, and the recurring theme music across the game is still in my head. There's so many satisfying "clicks" and "clunks" as you manipulate 60s era looking technology, which btw is one of the best things about this game. The bright 60s colors on all the surfaces, the big analog dials and switches, the simple digital displays, it's all so cool to look at and interact with.
So, the big con. There's major Unreal jank. Lots of artifacting, clipping textures, random screen blocking bloom effects. Got stuck in the environment several times. Had one crash. This may be Linux related, shrug.
This game is great. If you know the book, If you like that retro aesthetic, IMO it's a no brainer pickup. Absolutely enjoyed my time with it. 👍 👍

Suddenly remembered the haunting lullaby from #TheInvincible. Found a new version in Bandcamp, but for me it does nothing. My love is from game's launch trailer.
Down you go oh bright sun
Time to let the night in
For my legs are heavy
Field is not invitingLegs become too heavy
Hands become too weary
Down you go oh bright sun
Night is not that scaryHide behind the dark woods
While we're running barefoot
You will rise again tomorrow
Make the morning dew glow -

Although I worked in several American #comic shops in Frankfurt (De) for years, I have virtually no connection with #superheroes. It's understandable what #FreeLeague does. #TheInvincible #TTRPG won't be bought. I think they're overdoing like #WhiteWolf back then...
