  6. THE HONEYMOONERS ended its one-season run on CBS on this date in 1956.

But CBS didn't cancel it. Jackie Gleason did, and he went back to his variety show, which had better ratings.

The 39 episodes of THE HONEYMOONERS went into syndication in 1958 and have lived on in reruns ever since.

  7. THE HONEYMOONERS binges all day Sunday on MeTV sister channel Catchy Comedy.

32 of the "Classic 39" episodes will air starting 6am ET — and these shows are not on any streaming service, as far as I know.

  8. Tonight in 1956 — Ralph and Norton got stuck in trick handcuffs en route to the Raccoon Lodge convention on THE HONEYMOONERS.

"Unconventional Behavior" was the 33rd of The Classic 39 episodes produced in 1955-56 — one season of brilliance that has been rerun for nearly 70 years.

  9. "In stunning comeback, Carney’s Liberals win Canada’s federal election. The projected result marked a reversal in fortunes for a party that was on track for a historic wipeout only months ago and capped a campaign upended by Trump":

  10. Tonight in 1956 — Art Carney won an Emmy for THE HONEYMOONERS.

He was the only Emmy winner for the iconic sitcom's single season of 39 episodes.

  11. “It was always so much fun being around him….He was never depressed by failure or seduced by applause. He couldn’t stand snobbery, fakes, or social climbers. Jackie was street people. He related to the masses."

  13. Tonight in 1958 — Art Carney guest starred on ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS.

He was always much more than Norton from THE HONEYMOONERS, and this darkly comic episode is an early example of this brilliance.

Directed by Norman Lloyd! Watch on Prime, Peacock, and Roku Channel.

  14. Happy birthday to George Petrie (1912-1997), who appeared on more episodes of THE HONEYMOONERS than anyone other than the stars.

He was a prolific character actor for 60 years, but I’ll always think of him as “The Fifth Honeymooner."

  15. “He had exquisite timing.” — Jackie Gleason

Art Carney (1918–2003) was born on this date.

He’s beloved for THE HONEYMOONERS, but I also adore his poignant 1970s performances in HARRY AND TONTO, THE LATE SHOW, and GOING IN STYLE.

  19. Tonight in 1955 — Ralph and Alice Kramden adopted a baby.

“The Adoption” is the only HONEYMOONERS sketch that legitimately chokes me up.

It’s one of “The Lost Episodes,” but as good as any of "The Classic 39.”

  21. Tonight in 1976 — Jackie Gleason, Audrey Meadows and Art Carney reunited for the first of 4 HONEYMOONERS specials. (Jane Kean played Trixie.)

I had just discovered the 1950s reruns and wondered why Ralph looked so tan (and so old), but the apartment looked exactly the same.
