  1. I know people complain about “Red Asphalt” (1964) but “The Hand” (1981) really feels like overkill to teach people not to stick their arms out of a moving vehicle

  2. I thought I’d seen all of the major “Orlac's Hände” (1924) inspired films but apparently not since this one is new-to-me

  3. This is a great place to bring a kid, as long as you really want to make sure that kid gets traumatized

  4. And that’s why they call him 🎶 5 fingered Michael Caine🎶

  5. For @neurothing's #ThursdayFiveList - songs about #TheHand - my mind went completely blank.

However, coincidentally I was thinking about this song earlier today: Stomp Your Hands, Clap Your Feet, from Quiet Riot's 1984 album Condition Critical.

A goofy piece of 80s glam metal, delivered with absolute commitment.

(Regrettably I had a copy of the album on CD once, but I sold it when I needed the money. However I never let go of Metal Health.)

  7. #HappyBirthday to Maurice Joseph Micklewhite, a.k.a. #MichaelCaine, the Oscar / BAFTA-winning English actor, born in London on this day. He has over 170 screen credits across eight decades and played, among others, Alfred Pennyworth, Fagin, Scrooge, "Sherlock Holmes" and Harry Palmer. Iconic as gangsters in #GetCarter ('71) and Neil Jordan's #MonaLisa ('86), but also memorable as the fracturing male leads of Brian De Palma's #DressedToKill ('80) and Oliver Stone's underrated #TheHand ('81). #OTD

  8. @theonlysimonandorgarfunkel I subscribe to #Readly on #iPad which gets me loads of #magazines to read (eg #ArtGuideAustralia, Apollo, #ArtdocPhotography and lots of others). Hard copy, I get #TurpsBanana (best painting magazine by far), #TheHand (all types of prints with lots of alternative photography work) and #Mousse (though I’m thinking of cutting it out for cost reasons). Hope this helps. I also get a few good magazines on an iPad app via local library system.
