Since the US/Israeli war on #Iran began, this passage from #TheGreatGatsby has been widely quoted. But I'm uncomfortable.
Sure, this clearly applies to #Trump. The fate of people bombed or displaced doesn't concern him at all.
But it also applies to anyone with so much military power. Every #POTUS has been a careless killer.
The liberal American story of Trump shaming the #USA is false. There is no virtuous incarnation of the violent empire. Trump just omits the usual spin.

I recently discovered that the BBC has a bunch of classic books in audiobook format free to listen. I've been listening to Jane Austen novels 'Persuasion' and 'Pride and Prejudice' over the past couple of weeks while I cross stitch. A nice distraction from current events if you enjoy this type of novel. Next week be 'The Great Gatsby'.

I have another review for #NetGalley finally, this time a Gatsby retelling. This book came out two months ago and I've had the review copy for months longer still, but only had time to read and review it this month.
Also worth mentioning that I accidentally overwrote my last review when I published this on my website and had to revive the other one in a hurry. Good thing I pasted the review in full on NetGalley so I could copy and paste it again...lol
Anyway, this book was stunning. Probably one of my favourites for the whole year. If you love Gatsby in any way (or had a lot of run with Nghi Vo's retelling, this novel is an absolute must.

The Great Gatsby celebrates its 100th birthday this year, and you knew that One True Podcast couldn’t let 2025 go by without joining the celebration. We mark the centenary of this great American novel by marking its importance in American literary history as well as the life and career of Ernest Hemingway.
Fitzgerald scholar William Blazek visits us from his post at Liverpool Hope University to discuss the novel’s legacy, its glorious language, and its ambiguous themes; Gatsby as a complex and misunderstood character; how Gatsby would have struck the young Hemingway; and so many other aspects of this magnificent work.
