Dev & I been experimenting a lot with our solar cooker this summer, especially after a part failed. We couldn't cook food in water, so we've been grinding legumes(chickpeas, lentils...) and certain grains(rice, buckwheat...) into flour.
Doing this reduces cooking time, and as a result we've been eating a lot more legumes.
We grind the flour in advance with our grain mill and keep them in jars.

Did an interesting solar cooking experiment yesterday, we milled some glutenous rice into flour, put the flour in the solar oven with water, it made a very tasty rice cake, which we then sliced and roasted in a pan in sesame oil. Its texture is exactly like that of mochi. We didn't take any pictures unfortunately, but it looked legit.

Can confirm that the tea tastes wonderful. I was going to go and pick more blóðberg today but I got sidetracked and then a storm hit the cabin so I stayed inside instead. #theGalley

Spent the afternoon climbing the side of a mountain picking thymus praecox (mother of thyme) or Blóðberg (blood rock) like it is known in Icelandic. It is being dried as I write this and hopefully tomorrow I will be able to enjoy my favorite tea. #theGalley

"Coffee" from solar-roasted soybeans ^____^!
I'm really impressed with the flavor. It makes an excellent coffee alternative.

Two kinds of beans, spring onions, fresh coriander, cucumber, capers, olive oil, salt, pepper and a splotch of very sour home made apricot compot. Makes for a fine breakfast.

Today I learned that if you want a proper selection of legumes you need to go to the Turkish supermarket.

Today's solar-cooked concoction(say that many times real fast): 2 small baguettes (a wheat and buckwheat mixture), which we'll have for dinner tonight with soybean hummus.
One baguette has little dents in it because the parchment paper wrapping collapsed inward a bit ^^;.

My favorite mix to prepare lately is either lentil or chickpea flour(i grind both myself), mixed with cumin, chili flakes, garlic powder, turmeric and kasoori methi (and water, evidently).
The mixture is not overly runny and it is possible to cook it in the canoe(what i call our improvised solar cooker tray). Kasoori methi smells so, so good ;________;.
The result is a long tube savory cake, which I cut into thick slices and throw onto other meals. Tasty, filling, and uses shelf-stable items. -
Rek milled some buckwheat and I cut some pasta.

Sun tea with mint gets me nostalgic for my grandmother who made it for me when I would visit. So easy too! #theGalley

I found a fairly cheap Cousances cast iron pan from the early 1900s in very good condition and it's perfect. This will be one to pass down to the grandchildren. First test run: fried tofu with mushrooms and peppers.

When a sandwich place doesn't label sandwiches, it's always very easy to tell which is mine versus Mel's. The heavier one is mine, because the more toppings the better in my opinion. #theGalley

It's been a while since I've fermented veggies, but I had so many that I decided to give these colorful experiments a go.

Whenever I make bread for hummus these days I use the same recipe/process as when I make pizza dough. I also cook it the exact same way in a cast-iron pan on the stovetop.
Then I cut the flatbread into wedges for dipping ^^. It's quick, and it's good.
