CW: Facebook and me whining.
I have tried leaving Facebook and a couple of occasions, and I wound up going back. Both times I left a long, rambling post on how our engagement drives the platform yadda yadda-de-fucking-yadda. I had actually deleted my original account, but then covid. I created a new account to keep in contact with friends during the lockdown. Back I went.
Things change. I've changed. That change was evident when the Titan submersible disaster happened. My feed was meme after meme, post after post of "stupid rich people got what they deserved". I was done. I was just....done. I didn't want to add to that energy. I just don't want to add to ugliness any more. And I'm not going to preach. I've preached enough for a lifetime of sermons, and really, who the fuck am I to do so? People are going to people.
I wouldn't say I've "left" Facebook. I left a simple, pinned post: "If you need/want to contact me, text is best, or email me at <insert email addy here>"
I then logged out, and disabled the app on my phone. No rant. No encouraging others to 'stick it to the man' and join the Fediverse.
I don't know where I'm going. I'm just going. I know I want to spend more time in the Fediverse and champion it. Be a citizen of it. Be a good neighbor in it. If this path is part of my growth as a person, I'd rather grow here than on those platforms that have proven our growth as humans really means nothing to them.
From the depths of my heart, I wish you all the strength to endure, peace, and all the love this heart can muster.

Keep it nice. Threats, name-calling, and bullshite of that ilk are the stuff of the web/platforms we left behind. We may not agree with each other, but we damn well need to stand for one another.
