  1. CW: The Elder Scrolls Oblivion ending spoilers

    #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
The ending really is quite easy, isn’t it? But it looks cool anyway.
So Martin has stopped Mehrunes Dagon, I was declared Champion of Cyrodiil and got a dragon armor like Martin had on earlier during the Great Oblivion Gate battle.
But… it’s really not as good as the armor I got from the madgod DLC quest. This now tells me that next time round I’ll try to do the quests in a little bit different order, so that the most fun, like the DLC, get done after the main quest. But this time round I played it in this order and after Morrowind I understand it so much better. It’s a great game and now goes into my replay pile!
    Next, you guessed it, Skyrim!

Okay, the Great Oblivion Gate is closed and the Great Sigil Stone has been retrieved. Martin got a bit stuck, the game claimed he was unconscious while he was just standing there looking at me 😅 that’s because he got killed just when I had entered the Great Oblivion Gate and the game told me all hope was lost so I had to reload. So I tried what happens if I reload the autosave after stepping through the gate. I didn’t get a new popup saying he’d been killed, so I proceeded. Luckily he got back to normal after I fast travelled to another place and back to the battlefield, so game was able to progress.
Next up is Mankar Camoran’s Paradise to retreive the Amulet of Kings. But that can wait for Thursday, it’s a bit of a long sequence if I remember rightly.

  3. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
I managed to snap a shot of a Spriggan. I didn’t remember them being in this game, because that first time I played I didn’t walk the roads at all, I just used fast travel so I missed a lot of random enemies in certain areas of the map.

  4. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
I have now retrieved the Armor of Tiber Septim for Martin.
If I remember rightly, there aren’t many steps left in the main quest anymore.
I have some side quests unfinished, and one whole faction not done because I read that you can slay the guy who invites you to the Dark Brotherhood (my character is not one to do that, so I’ll leave those achievements to another playthrough). The side quests are things that require you to find really specific rare things, like flawless pearls, bottles of really rare wine or just stuff that’s only available in the madgod realm and even there really just down to roaming certain areas very meticulously.
So I think I’ll just do the main quest till the end and leave all those others until my next playthrough.
    But now, to Martin!

  5. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
Finally! M’Aiq the Liar ran towards me instead of away from me, so I was able to interact with him. He’s too fast to catch up to.

  6. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
I progressed the main quest so that I saved Kvatch, and some of the guards got shot by arrows. Instead of the knee one took one on the hilt of his sword and another took one up his butt.
So Oblivion gates are now a thing and I managed to take Martin to Jauffry, and should now be looking for the amulet of kings.
But I got distracted again. First I did some stuff in Bruma, which I also did during the previous playthrough, the one with the thief who claimed to be a vampire hunter and slew his thieving accomplices, and the one with another thieving pair, Jorundr and Arnora. And I found the amulet for the countess of Bruma.
As I was on my way to continue the main quest in the Imperial City, I got given a note from the Gray Fox and now I’m part of the Thieves’ Guild. So I guess I’ll do that next 😂
At the moment my armor is that of the Dark Seductresses of the Shivering Isles. Skimpier than I’d like but at the moment the best sort of armor I have.

  7. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
I finished the Shivering Isles and became the new madgod. I might return there if I get some stuff required for some of the leftover side quests.
Back in Tamriel all I have are side quests that require exploration and looting without any map markers, or buying stuff that costs a bit more than I can afford. So it’s time to progress the main quest and go to Kvatch. Where we shall encounter our first Oblivion gate.
    But first, some sleep.

  8. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
The Shivering Isles certainly are mad. I figured I’m doing the… less murder-y route but I’m not sure anymore. I suspect this requires two playthroughs.
Still, it is quite fun. And I got some cool amber armor, the Arena prize armor kept breaking down too quickly.

  9. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
Actually… I’m getting very, very heavy Morrowind vibes out of this place, too. The weird mushroom-like trees and small islands remind me of Sadrith Mora.

  10. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
I have now entered Mania, which is a colorful but dangerous place. The monsters here at least are pretty cool. And I encountered the first Hunger since Morrowind.
And these stubby Groot lookalikes are adorable 😄
The way this map is built feels a lot like the Oblivion gate areas. You have a kind of a set path, that can go many routes. Only this place isn’t made of rocks and lava.

  11. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
64 hours in, main quest still not progressed past Find the Heir, and I’ve checked all undiscovered map locations (I’m sure there’s more, excluding the Oblivion gates). So… I’m thinking I’ll do this expansion quest! Based on achievements and what just happened, I’m about to enter the Shivering Isles.

  12. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
Xbox achievements revealed another thing I missed the first time round. I think you can do the arena fights in Morrowind, too? I only ventured there once because the main story requires you to duel someone there so you can progress.

But I finished the mages’ guild now, too, and thought I’d progress another ”find stuff for this person” quest and then noticed there’s a fast travel point to the arena. So here I am, fighting some poor sods to the death.

  13. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
Well, I did it, I spent a couple of hours, apparently, walking around river banks and lakesides, finding the 40 nirnroots.
I at least expected an achievement! But nope, there doesn’t seem to be one.
Oh well, at least I won’t have to do this quest ever again 😂

  14. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
Oh, I knew this would not be the end of it 🤦🏻
One more set of nirnroot, 40 samples. But I will do this quest, damn it!
I found a decent area with lots of wetland where they hopefully resprout after some time. Maybe. I’m hoping there’s more I just missed a few minutes ago.

  15. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
I did my pilgrimage and defeated Umaril the Unfeathered, and restored the Order of the Nine.
I figured it has now been long enough for Traven at the Arcane University to be able to progress the Mages’ Guild quest line. Because I don’t want to get on with the main quest just yet 😅 you know, 50 hours in to this playthrough…

  16. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
I don’t think I ever did this one the first time I played Oblivion. It showed me how handy it is to walk each of the long roads in order to find fast travel points along the way for later. So matching the shrine locations from the inventory map with the actual map was a bit easier. I didn’t have to wander too much looking for the shrines as they don’t have their own markers on the map.
And no, I have not progressed the main story at all in a long time, I still haven’t gone to look for Martin in Kvatch 😆

  17. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
I had to stop playing for a bit, but I managed to get to the end of the fighters’ guild quest line (I just have to go to Vilena to end it). Modryn gave me this helm and it rang a bell. Especially after he told me how he came to possess it.
I remember this quest from Morrowind.

  18. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
I was delighted to find these two in Anvil. Mojo the dog in Anvil’s Fighters’ Guild and Sparky the imp in Anvil’s Mages’ Guild. You can’t interact with them, but they are members of their respective guilds. Pets, more like.
There’s also that one lady in Chorrol who has two dogs that follow her, you can’t interact with them either. Which is a pity. I like it when games let you interact with NPC animals, when it doesn’t involve having to defend yourself.

  19. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
The music is very enjoyable in Oblivion, too. Last night I started playing and did one task for the fighters’ guild, but then felt too tired to continue. Instead of just stopping the game I dozed off, sitting up, with Wäinö the cat on my lap, Xbox headphones on and the game just on pause with the music playing. I think I slept for three hours like that, before waking up because the cat on my lap got too warm 😅 I guess I was just really tired after this week.
Clip is to give you an idea of the background music. I don’t know why my video captures keep having these random stops. The games run fine, clips just have this problem, no matter which game I play.

  20. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
Oh wow. I am ashamed how I just ran through the main quest line of this game the first time I played. I missed out on A LOT of content that way. A lot of great quests.
I’m still just doing fighters’ guild stuff and whatever else crops up, and I have only met with Jauffrey in the main quest line. Oblivion gates have not yet made an appearance.
This is a quest for Kud-Ei in the mages’ guild of Bravil, saving her friend from a dreamworld he trapped himself into.
I’m so glad I decided to replay Oblivion. I now have a new favorite game series!

  21. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
I knew it was just a matter of time and waiting for the moons’ phases and positions to change. Masser, the big moon with a reddish tint and Secundo, the smaller moon. Secundo was most likely just below the horizon until now.
I love it when games have stuff like this, heavenly bodies that move according to time and changing weather. So cool and more immersive.

  22. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
I wasn’t gonna play today, because I slept so horribly and was so tired and hungry when I got home from work. But I took an hour’s nap and baked a frozen pizza for grub and suddenly just sitting and browsing the web aimlessly didn’t sound as exciting as I first figured I’d do for the rest of the day.
So now I’m lifting a curse from a manor I bought from Velwyn Benirus. That’s more exciting.

  23. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
I may be influenced by games like The Witcher, when someone tells me a foul odor eminates from someone’s house and my first instict is to go ”they’re probably dead and no one’s checked”.
I’m in Leyawiin and one Argonian gentleman told me this rumour.
Turns out the lady isn’t dead but cursed with a Daedric staff that summoned scamps to her house and they just follow her around!
I really like how not so dark and medieval these games are when what has happened to someone is actually not the worst possible thing but a fun new quest for me to figure out.

I’m so happy I started this second round with Morrowind, because that game became an instant favorite once I figured it out. And now I can say that Oblivion absolutely will follow suit!

  24. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
A slaughterfish floundering on shore 😅
I think something similar happened in the previous playthrough. On Skyrim one slaughterfish swam in air, too.

I’m doing fighters guild duties now, I am a journeyman in the guild. And I’m walking through Blackwood to Leyawiin. I don’t think I did that first time around. I’m trying to walk to new places at least once, so that I can discover places.
Current duty is to deal with some guild brothers who are making a bad name for us by being rowdy at a tavern. I found the tavern but will progress the quest tomorrow.

  25. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
I can now tell that this game absolutely has to be played like Morrowind. Just, instead of a lot more reading you need to listen to NPCs. I just joined the fighters’ guild and am doing my first job for them, and I have to give some other fighters the correct weapons. They hint at what they would like instead of just flat out telling me they want a sword or a hammer.
Yup, I can absolutely foresee myself getting much, much more into this game than I did the first time around.

  26. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
Still just the one moon. I assume the other one just may be behind this one?
    We’ll see as time progresses.

  27. #TheElderScrollsOblivion #VideoGames
More playing like I played Morrowind. I know fast travel is a thing, but it being instantly available to various places doesn’t work for me. I mean it works, but I don’t want to do it without going to the place on foot first. That became one of the fun things about Morrowind in the end, finding my way to the places. It helps me a lot with remembering the map and where to find certain places again.
In Oblivion most quests do have a marker, but the one I currently have active doesn’t have one. It’s telling me to go to Cheydinhal to figure out who’s making a bad name for a gentlemen in Chorrol. I did this quest my first playthrough, so I think the quest’s name gives something away.
And I’m speaking to everyone. And taking my time with the side quests rather than just gunning for the main quest. I think I’ll join the fighters guild next.
