#PercyFrench was aways a bit too tame for more defiant stars of the Irish folk revival such as #TheDubliners. He was a bit off-brand for the likes of #TommyMakem and #LiamClancy. But to me, Percy French still awaits the arrival of some loudly passionate and irreverent scruffs who can give his words some welly. #Shane and #Sinead would both have known what to do with this material, but it's too late to ask them why they didn't use it.

Something I've only just discovered: Luke Kelly was a card-carrying member of the Communist Party of Great Britain, and became an active participant in left-wing organisations such as the Young Communist League and the Connolly Association in England.

From the Late Late Show tribute to The Dubliners. Ciaran recites "The Lament for Brendan Behan" by Joe O' Broin. This was his last appearance:

Rugadh Lúcás Ó Ceallaigh (Luke Kelly) i mBaile Átha Cliath ar an 17 Samhain 1940. B’amhránaí Éireannach agus amhránaí ceol tíre é, agus an ball is cáiliúla den ghrúpa The Dubliners.
Ammended to show correct year of birth.

This is an interesting BBC R4 documentary about Dirty Old Town by Ewan MacColl, the various interpretations and the recordings of the song by the likes of the Dubliners and the Pogues.
Ewan MacColl apparently said: "I don't know what the Irish are going to do with it because they are famous for making any song their song.' I can't imagine what he meant. 😂

Picked up a bargain... Makes me remember the phrase "cost of everything, value of nothing". Iconic band, amazing history, double CD... £4.
