In Ghana 🇬🇭 when posters can't be imported, local artists will bootleg them to the best of their abilities. Some often are more imaginative than the official studio releases.#TheDarkCrystal (1982)
On another planet in the distant past, the last of the Gelfling race embarks on a quest to find the missing shard of a magical crystal and to restore order to his world. -

For Artober 2019, I made my own The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance prompt list.
I had so much fun with this, it was a great project. Maybe I'll do it again if they make more TDC. Looking at you, Netflix.

Watching Sandra Bullock (61 years old) Cate Blanchett (56), and other 60something actresses and how they look. They all have a look, which I suspect is a result of personal trainers, dieticians, and plastic surgery. It finally hit me: Gelflings. They look like gelflings.
No judgment--I assume being anyone in #Hollywood, especially a woman, brings ridiculous image pressure. I'm just saying they look like gelflings.
(Furthermore, let it be said once again that Helena Bonham Carter can do no wrong)

I don't remember all of the movies I introduced my friends to this way, but they definitely included #TheLastUnicorn, #TheNeverendingStory, and #TheDarkCrystal.
Growing up as a #bilingual #ThirdCultureKid can be fun, but it is definitely weird most of the time.

Meditation on one of my favorite movies from my childhood. The dark crystal by Jim Henson, Brian froud, and frank oz.
Still going to try to keep the daily blog going for awhile. I know I make mistakes but I am going to keep marching forward until I am what I need to be.
The Dark Crystal (1982) review and meditation.

The Dark Crystal will be in some theatres this weekend, Oct 12 and 13. Check Fathom for locations.
https://www.fathomentertainment.com/releases/the-dark-crystal-2025/Dark Crystal is a hidden Henson gem. And a unique fantasy of an odd world. The Skeksis are selfish & cruel rulers of a wild land. The Emperor is dying. And the schemes to power begin. And in the midst of this, the remaining Gelflings find each other. And, the missing shard of The Crystal.

CRISTAL OSCURO
