I need help getting through my Criterion Channel queue, rather than continually adding to the list 😭

It's just been hard for me to choose to watch (or read) anything that makes me feel or think too deeply this last 15 or so years, for personal and political reasons, especially since I don't have anyone to share the experiences.

I need a queue partner to motivate me; maybe share lists and pick a 1-2 a week for each other, or together 🤷🏿‍♂️

In the 80's, I often caught bits of a #movie while flipping through #cable channels, but never bothered to find out what it was until I caught the very end, and the visuals and music hit me with their haunting power.

I soon forgot the title, and in the 2000's it took me a while to re-find it because the end was my only clue. When I found it, I couldn't find a way to watch the #film.

I caught up on the trailers I've skipped and was interested in, #Loki, #TheMarvels, and #Echo on #YouTube, now I'm going to start catching up on shows I've missed, starting with #SecretInvasion 😬

I'll catch up with all the other stuff, too, but I've watched plenty of serious stuff (#TheCriterionChannel, etc) during my #solidarity break, so now for the mind fluff, which is absolutely, 100% true #cinema, the same as all the rest.

It doesn't have to be good, or to matter, to be cinema.

#TheGrifters came out after a (not "the) #SavingsAndLoan (manufactured) crisis and used that indirectly in its depiction of greed and the "conned".

It's relevant in this world of #BernieMadoff, #crypto and #NFT's, #Enron, #StockMarkets, #TooBigToFail, all the other cons and con artists we know and acknowledge as such, and all those very many others that are still considered legitimate.

As history proves, the bigger the con, the more people believe and want to get taken...

I've enjoyed part of #DavidLynch's, work, some being among my favorites (#BlueVelvet), but not being able to understand so much of his #art has made it difficult for me to fully appreciate him.

#Lynch / #Oz, now on #TheCriterionChannel, has given me a new perspective that I'll use to rewatch (and watch) his work (not #WildAtHeart, 'cuz fuck all things #Elvis).

A recent rewatch of #MulhollandDrive helped, and I still missed this connection.

#TheCriterionChannel has a collection of #DavidLynch's short films. I just watched his first two, SIX MEN GETTING SICK (1967, length 4:20) and THE ALPHABET (1968, length 4:02).

Fascinating. These were done when he was an art student. He was studying #painting but was driven to find ways to make the paintings move. Thus began his life with #film.

Madeline's Madeline, 2018, #DirectedBy #JosephineDecker, was difficult and confusing to watch at times, for me, and ultimately rewarding.

#HelenaHoward is magnificent and delivers a performance throughout that makes the revelatory monologue and final scene potent and cathartic, reminiscent of such moments in #OrdinaryPeople and #GoodWillHunting, among others.

I don't watch as many movies as I'd like on #TheCriterionChannel because most of the ones I choose require a level of #intellectual or #emotional investment, or both, that's been difficult for me since 2011, when my marriage imploded. I saw #Melancholia a few weeks later in the theater, which perfectly describes the movie and my mood then.

That's the last deep #movie I saw in a theater.

I used to thrive on such #films, but the world since then has me guarding my emotional health; I'm a softie.

I thought I was ready, having seen the trailers and waiting about 8 months after it premiered on #TheCriterionChannel.

I was not.

I haven't cried so hard over a movie since #DancerInTheDark.

#EO, 2022, #DirectedBy #JerzySkolimowski, is a beautiful, moving, and deeply sad #movie that I can't recommend for everyone, but I recommend everyone watch.

An amazing piece of #art, and display of empathy.

A major warning regarding several scenes with flashing strobe-like light effects and editing.

#JimiCouldHaveFallenFromTheSky, a man who fell to #Earth a bit before #Bowie, perhaps.

#TheRapture is one of those serendipitous finds that used to make #CableTV so satisfying for me.

The best thing (along with #FullBodyMassage) that I've seen #MimiRogers in, and also my introduction to #DavidDuchovny.

The post-80's #evangelical theme is, sadly, still timely. I don't know if the rest will hold up.

I do know that ending has stuck with me more than 30 years and is why #TheCriterionChannel has it in 90's #horror.
