  1. The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favourite books. Alexandre Dumas' story of revenge is wonderfully woven. Made into a superb new film a few years ago, starting tonight that film is serialised on the BBC. Recommended.

  4. I quite like this #TheCountofMonteCristo! Classically staged and carefully adapted to the #zeitgeist. Not a must-see, but not a bad choice for a rainy Sunday. Much better than the surprisingly tired Musketeer garbage with #EvaGreen. #movies #drama #filmsky

  5. Watched the first episode of that new #TheCountOfMonteCristo adaptation, and it really bugs me that everyone refers to the Château d'If as the "Castle d'If." We've got other series running called "Escape to the Chateau" and "Chateau DIY." Do they really not trust people to know what a château is? And even if they don't, would it not make more sense to swap out "d'If" for "of If" as well?

  6. I just saw #TheCountOfMonteCristo in theaters and it was an amazing movie. I'm just shaken. I want to see it again. It was also the first French language film I have ever seen.

  7. Not too bad an adaption, very opulent and well acted, however like most of the film versions it struggles with how to end the story positively (obviously dispensing with the book's ending which wouldn't fly these days). It is quite long though, might have benefitted from being a two-parter like the Jean Marais version from the 1950s.
