"Give Love on Christmas Day" is a #Christmas song first recorded in 1970 by #Motown's #Jackson5. Written by the label's songwriting-producing team, #TheCorporation (#BerryGordy, #AlphonzoMizell, Christine Perren, #FreddiePerren and #DekeRichards), the song was recorded for the Jackson 5 Christmas Album. The song was well received critically upon release of the album. The festive track went on to be covered by groups such as #TheTemptations, #NewEdition, and #BlackGirl.

If you haven't seen the 2003 original, made in the wake of the Enron and WorldCom scandals and only 5 years before the corpogenic Global Financial Crisis, get thee to the archives;

Keeping with the documentary theme, I'm watching the 2020 sequel to the excellent 2003 film The Corporation. Entitled The New Corporation: The Unfortunately Necessary Sequel, it explores the "corporation social responsibility" gambit and the normalisation of disaster capitalism.
If you can afford to pay to see it, please help the filmmakers fund future work. If you can't, magnet links for downloading it with BitTorrent can be found here;

> ... as individuals they may be anything. In their institutional role they're monsters because the institution is monstrous. The same is true here. So an individual CEO, let's say, may really care about the environment and, in fact, since they have such extraordinary resources, they can even devote some of their resources to that without violating their responsibility to be totally inhuman.

> #MaryZepernick : There were very few chartered corporations in early United States history. And the ones that existed had clear stipulations in their state issued charters, how long they could operate, the amount of capitalisation, what they made or did or maintained, a turnpike or whatever was in their charter and they didn't do anything else. They didn't own or couldn't own another corporation. Their shareholders were liable. And so on.

There are a lot of other important quotes from the movie:
> is it ethical? I don't know. But our role at Initiative is to move products, and if we know you move products with a certain creative execution, placed in a certain type of media vehicle, then we've done our job. They are tomorrow's consumer - tomorrow's adult consumer - so start talking with them now, build that relationship when they're younger, and you've got them as an adult. -
I can't find a quote by Susan E. Linn from _The Corporation_ DVD. It used to be on the imdb site, I'm pretty sure.. She said "you can't win" and protect children from corporate advertisers while they watch TV, or get exposed to ads through other media (I guess).
The quote came to mind while thinking about my refusal to use slack or gmail at work and a song from _The Wiz_ came to mind.

“Not merely machines, but mechanical order and regimentation spread through the entire environment... With the mechanization and prospective automation of farming, the aim is not to improve the life of the farmer but to augment the profits of the megatechnic corporations that supply the machinery and the power needed for large-scale monoculture, with the smallest possible use of human labor..."

Like the #Chisso corporation and #MinamataDisease pattern:
> The new company that emerges from the ashes of Purdue Pharma will be allowed to continue making and selling opioid products, including OxyContin.
> But architects of this deal say future opioid profits will go to help fund drug treatment programs.
> #PurduePharma itself will re-emerge from bankruptcy as a new company operated as a form of public trust corporation.

> .. the.. #SacklerBrothers who bought Purdue and.. developed oxycontin were physicians.. Purdue hired 3,000 doctors to serve on their speakers bureau—a fact which certainly does not reflect well on the #Medicalprofession. #RichardSackler, the current chairman of the board of Purdue and who closely directed the firm in recent years, went to #HarvardBusinessSchool—a fact which also does not reflect well on America’s premier business school. At Purdue, profits trumped ethics. #TheCorporation
-
> Purdue Pharma's story isn't unique. Many of the largest corporations in the U.S. got involved in the opioid business and have paid large sums to settle a wave of lawsuits linked to the crisis.
> Late last month, four #Fortune50 companies — #AmerisourceBergen, #CardinalHealth, Johnson & #JohnsonAndMcKesson — agreed to a deal worth roughly $26 billion.

The recent talk of Global Cooling that got me to the CIGS (Canon Global Strategy...) Suit (Taishi Sugiyama) now has me reading grist and trughout articles for _Merchants of Doubt_. #FredSinger writing an appendix for the Acid Rain report sound just like Sugiyama writing a chapter for the IPCC. I went to learn from Minamata again today and still need to digest the more important experiences. It would have been great if we had the time and energy to visit OtomeTsuka (Maid Hill) but we didn't so we took a look at this art memorial while walking to a view of the sea and back. Brass balls might serve to represent corporate attitudes toward externalities like poisoning an ecology and killing poor people.

If the Corporation has the same rights as a person, is that person a psychopath? (according to DSM-IV checklist)
✔️the callous disregard for the feelings of other people
✔️the incapacity to maintain human relationships
✔️the reckless disregard for the safety of others
✔️the deceitfulness (continual lying to deceive for profit)
✔️the incapacity to experience guilt
✔️the failure to conform to social norms and respect the law

@pluralistic nailed it. I'm sure he's seen the 2003 film The Corporation. IMHO this remains the most accessible piece of media exploring the corporate takeover of our economic lives (and thereby much of our political lives too), following the neoliberal coups of the 1980s.
Official filmmakers' edition can be watched or downloaded here:

"The SVB depositors just had to whine on Twitter and make a few calls."
--- Dylan Gyauch-Lewis.> "As soon as corporations and the wealthy run into trouble, elites trip over themselves, discarding both law and precedent, to rescue them," Gyauch-Lewis wrote, noting that federal regulators had to classify SVB's collapse as a "systemic risk" to the financial system—a disputed characterization—in order to legally guarantee deposits over $250,000.
- https://www.commondreams.org/news/billionaire-bailout-fdic-svb
.> For contrast, Gyauch-Lewis added, "consider student loan forgiveness. The legal justification is clear as day, and the authority itself is used regularly. According to the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students Act of 2003, the Education Department can forgive student loans as it sees fit in a national emergency."
.> "At bottom, the core reason SVB's depositors got bailed out had little to do with morals or even financial risk," Gyauch-Lewis argued. "It happened because they had rich and powerful friends with the ear of the president's chief of staff. Broke students don't. The students have to organize and campaign for decades to get something far worse than what they wanted, and for that to hang in the balance at the Supreme Court. The SVB depositors just had to whine on Twitter and make a few calls."

You have to develop what are called "#CreatedWants". So you have to create wants. You have to impose on people what's called a #PhilosophyOfFutility. You have to focus them on the insignificant things of life, like fashionable consumption. I'm just basically quoting #BusinessLiterature.

The metaphor of the golem is also a great way to explain the special class of problems caused by corporations. Unlike the psychopath, the analogy of used in the doco The Corporation, the golem is not a person, just vaguely person-shaped. It's not capable of being malicious because it's not capable of being self-aware. Humans with psychopathy can be taught to simulate empathy using their intellect, even if they can't feel it.
