  1. I assume that this is not neceserrily a helpful thought for people with automimmune diseases, but maybe it is. Allegedly (I have not searched for primary sources for this and am just trusting Ropbert Sapolski in his Podcast with this) there is an eveolutionary connection between the Black Plague and autoimmune diseases. The claim here is that some genetic selection has happend by the Black Plague where some genetic combinations where "immune" to it or at least less likely to get infected or die from it and these genetic strains that are good for avoiding the Black Plague come with the side effect that they do increase the likelyhood of autoimmunic diseases. Of course, that is a wild claim, difficult to proof, and like everything in science just a theory that might be wrong - but assuming it might be correct: It makes me feel like sending a message to everyone with an autoimunic disease out there which is: Thank you for your service in the fight against the Black Plague. We (as in humanity as a whole) kind of owe you lot. Thank you for providing the heard immunity we need to keep this horrible disease in check.
