@Susanbee @ozzy @eirliani I think ppl’s experiences on #thebird are very individual - at least the change of ownership, when #musk began redesigning the space in his own image. Before that, my experience there was great, but I concertedly stayed away from politics and partisanship. It was pretty possible to make that a whole separate Tw, if that makes sense. Having said that, I know ppl who had horrible experiences there, having done nothing to spark them.

I’m still trying to figure out what I want to post about here. I left #TheBird in April when it became clear it would be bought. Since then it’s actually been pretty nice not to be so heavily engaged with daily microblogging, but there is stuff I want to share. My journey as part of our departmental #dei committee, the advances and cool things we’re learning rebuilding the #Neotoma #Paleoecology database R package, other #programming stuff… EarthCube thingy-things… all that stuff.

@miriamboon My reading of the social context of mastodon is that, YES, it's a good idea to put in a content warning. People migrating here from #thebird have been surprised by the level of content moderation for seemingly straightforward statements of feelings & interests.

at this point (after a few good rounds of Scotch - Balvenie American Oak for those interested) I don't really care if Twitter implodes or finds a way to resurect itself. I'm just overjoyed that we're all finding each other here and contributing to something new and wonderful!
