So, he's selling one company he owns to another company he owns, and decideding himself how much both companies are worth in the process.
How is this not fraud, to prop up his theoretical net worth so he can get better sweetheart loans like the rest of the billionaire class?

"bird.makeup is a Twitter to ActivityPub bridge."
At least 4 different users of this service came across my feed today. It seems to be used by a lot of creeps, liars, #grifters, and far-right folks, so beware. I guess that's not super surprising, considering the increasing percentage of Twitter that is pure 💩
Blocking them, and recommend others do the same.

I used to post long #VisualAlgebra threads on #MathTwitter before realizing that I was actually in #TheBadPlace. I'm going to make my debut #MathSky thread today, with visuals that I've never publicly shared. (Can you guess the topic?) I'm excited to show you, and I hope you enjoy! 1/19 🧵👇

This is ridiculous. Guess I should request my instance tanztee.social to be added to #TheBadPlace because I'm a #white #leftist #antifascist #queer on a #single user instance with no #description and no #moderation. That should qualify, right?

Not a new idea, but searching for where I can watch Star Trek: The Next Generation reminded me how much I hate streaming exclusives, especially for shows that aren’t getting released on physical media (though TNG has been). 😠

@lightweight @billbennett @stephen
It'll be interesting.
The Herald editor blocked me on #TheBadPlace for pointing out bugs, so I guess they'll find little vendor support now that the sale is made. -
@timnitGebru @mekkaokereke I'm not aware of #thebadplace, so that's a plus. Thank-you!

@Diggler67 @uxmark
There are folks here and in #TheBadPlace who make their feed all about 1 topic but most of us have a range of interests, which makes this all quite interesting. -

Is @DrunkMuldoon here or still marooned back in #TheBadPlace ? -
@[email protected] oh wow! I’m not following much news after leaving #TheBadPlace! Anyway, I figured it was a joke. And seeking affirmation is nothing to be ashamed of. It’s a natural human need. Hope the stew was great. -
@[email protected] Sadly, the English teachers came over here briefly and timidly and the majority seem to have left the building. I miss the lively dialogue in #TheBadPlace. -
CW: Twitter, X, Elon Musk
In case anyone here wanted to know (which you probably didn't as this is probably why you are here in the first place), Musk is going after Wikipedia now.

@robincapper @ArrestJK
I abandoned my accounts before Musk showed up when #TheBadPlace demanded a phone number.

This post makes a lot of compelling arguments that #TheBadPlace block list going around is, well, badly assembled. Is there any kind of rebuttal to this? My instance is listed despite having an active moderation team with multiple POC members.
https://mastodon.social/@TheGoodSpace/111052271194393071(edit: apparently this blocklist isn't a functional thing anymore... So nevermind I guess)
(edit the second: lots of food for thought on both sides in the replies) -
CW: re: FediMeta CW because apparently you have to do that here in fedi
Start here for the context: https://tech.lgbt/@ShadowJonathan/111040123888700458
TLDR AFAIK is that tech.lgbt (yeah your instance lol) got silenced by rage.love, which led to it being listed in #TheBadPlace because rage.love's blocklist is one of the sources used. Admin of tech.lgbt was surprised to see their instance getting listed without any contact, evidence, or fediblock post.
Pretty much everyone in the fediverse rallied behind tech.lgbt because why the fuck would an LGBTQ+ space get listed alongside bigots in a supposedly "reputable" blocklist.
Then I guess a few bad apples used this to be racist against Ro, the developer maintaining the TBP blocklist. Which is awful btw. But then his response is not great either (making it look like everyone criticizing his blocklist is some white racist, and I haven't seen any apology from him on this issue AFAICS), especially those who are defending him saying that all admins wanting to get off from the list should ask him by PM first (which I think is not reasonable as I've explained in the first toot of this thread).
It's probably still too long for you, sorry, but I think if I make it any more shorter I might just trim out too much context... If you want to delve deeper you should probably read it for yourself as well as ro's toots so you can make up your own mind on this
-
Could someone please build us an app for rating instances? There are a list of key criteria that seem obvious, but I also think it should include a list of blocklists the instance has applied? #thegoodplace #thebadplace #fediverse #transparency

CW: re: FediMeta CW because apparently you have to do that here in fedi
Anyway I would like to thank @james and @Seirdy, who despite not really being involved (and shouldn't really have been involved, but just got here because their instances were used by TBP as "trusted sources". Please don't send them both, Ro, or anyone else hate mail!), I've seen were extremely helpful to the admins who got listed erroneously. They were very calm, professional, and understanding in handling this problem.
I sincerely hope #TheBadPlace learns a thing or two here. And it seems they're already taking steps in doing this as james said in one of the threads, which you can preview at tweaking.thebad.space.

CW: FediMeta CW because apparently you have to do that here in fedi
So I've been looking at this #TheBadPlace incident for a while, and I almost don't want to even speak something about it (my ghost friend has already summed up my thoughts :P), but there's just some narrative that I can't just let off the hook on.
"You should've contacted Ro privately to get your instance off the list"
No. That's not how this damn works.
If I'm an admin and you've listed my instance on your prominent, public blocklist for literally no reason AFAICS without any obvious way to contact you within the website your list is hosted, I'm sorry but you've waived your "right" or whatever to getting this issue resolved privately. That's just simply public accountability in action!
Now was it any more effective than private messaging them? I don't know. But that's not the point I want to get at. You're acting like it's even the innocent admin's fault for having that issue in the first place. There's a word for that: gaslighting. And it's a huge understatement for me to say that I am not a fan of this behavior.
Imagine you're an admin of an instance specifically for marginalized communities and you've done everything you could to ensure moderation is being done properly. And you still get blocklisted along with the bigots and plain awful people you have been working hard on keeping out of your server by a well-known and supposedly "reputable" project. Who wouldn't fucking freak out and immediately and desperately ask for help in their public timeline?!
