A look at the current costuming work for a the Scarlet Pimpernel. See this beautiful dress? It’s for one of the key characters . That’s one of 50+ 1790s English and French period costumes that our team are busily making !! All from recycled fabrics and lace.
The show tour launches at Brixham Theatre on June 13th before touring nationwide and then during the autumn appearing on TV globally via the Vomo channel available via both Amazon Fire Tv and Roku

More than just entertainment, more than just a tearjerker, Lonely Planet is a play that everyone should see, not to be just entertained, but also to never forget what happened during the dark time of the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

On Monday we were thrilled to bring some of our amazing actors to perform excerpts of Jekyll & Hyde to Brixham Good Companions at Brixham United Reformed Church. Jan, who owns the cafe Flour Flower, sent these pictures she grabbed of some of our actors, and sent this wonderful feedback screenshotted as well.
While as a rule we only do full scale performances, we do take two or three excerpt performances to local community charities to help show what we do, and Brixham Good Companions is one of our regular stops in this list. Thank you so much to Jan and everyone for making us so welcome - see you in the Spring, with excerpts from The Scarlet Pimpernel

An enormous thank you to South Devon Sound who have sponsored us with the donation of an amazing follow spot for our shows, this is absolutely stunning - here modelled by Sophie, one of our technical team , trying it out today in our Jekyll & Hyde rehearsals.

While we’re still busy on the tour for Romeo and Juliet, things are gearing up for Jekyll & Hyde, between two online orders we have some amazing things for Dr Jekyll’s laboratory. With a six day turnaround between the Romeo and Juliet tour finishing (though there may be an extension for a school or two!) and the start of Jekyll &Hyde with the castings, we are busy getting things ready!!

A wonderful rehearsal this evening for our production of Romeo & Juliet. The public show tour launches at Brixham Theatre on June 14th. / Wednesday evening rehearsals at the moment are all about fine-tuning scenes then full show runs on Sundays. We were also delighted to welcome Iz, a lovely lady doing her PhD in the accessibility of theatre technology, who is using our production as one of her case studies.
Romeo & Juliet is touring across Devon and to Birmingham this summer- you can find all the show dates and venues to book tickets at https://www.southdevonplayers.com/box-office.html

Lighting and doing sound for a show today. Director and actors faffing around while I should be programming cues and setting levels. It's my first time in this space and we've got four hours until the house opens. 🤷🏼♂️

As we are heading into the last weekend of MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS at my local #CommunityTheatre I guess it's time to address something.
Apparently this thing really divides a room. I've had DM's, I've had compliments, I've had friends try to pull it off thinking it was FX, and I've had people ask me "Think I'd look good in one too?"
I am absolutely NOT keeping the ridiculous mustache, that's settled.... But... The Tickler?
Stay?
Go?

In Hebrew, the language beautifully distinguishes between different types of performance spaces in a way that adds clarity and specificity.
For instance, while the word for theatre is תאטרון /te-at-'ron/, when referring to the actual hall or room where performances take place, it becomes אולם תאטרון /oo-'lam te-at-'ron/, combining the words for theatre and hall.
Similarly, a cinema or movie theatre isn't just קולנוע /kol-'no-a/, but rather אולם קולנוע /oo-'lam kol-'no-a/, when specifying the viewing hall itself.
This nuance in Hebrew highlights the importance of the space in which art is experienced, giving it a distinct identity and context.
This a picture of us attending the @creativemorningschs in their beautiful Dock Street theatrefilled with history and character.
This experience truly captures the essence of how spaces dedicated to the arts hold a special place in our cultural landscape.

Really troubled to see colleagues at #MiddlesexUniversity at risk of #redundancy with the decimation of their Drama department. It’s very easy to cut Drama departments — but it takes decades to build them. London has such a vibrant arts sector — and global renown — but cutting courses and acedimics puts the whole sector at risk.

I saw a concert production of #Figaro last weekend. I was reminded just how beautiful it is. There are some just incredible parts. I still find the lack of connection between the music and the emotion of the singers discombobulating. But it’s so beautiful.

Fab day in the city, today, of theatre and arts meetings- both the planned ones and the unplanned- when someone comes up to you recognising the theatre company name and reputation, and wanting to discuss involvement with you- an extra impromptu and very positive meeting happened. (Absolutely not complaining as was also very productive)
Great seeds have been sown today.#exeter #devon #DevonActors #devontheatre #theatrelife #networking #touringtheatre #ExeterCathedral #theatre #actorslife

Last night I saw the incredible #DarkWithExcessiveBright at the Royal Opera House with lighting by Simisola Majekodunmi and sound design by Jon Nicholls.
An incredible piece of performance. Get tickets while you still can!

Today I have been catching up on Edition 3 of Philip Auslander’s book Liveness. Still excellent. Although there isn’t yet a recognition of the role technology and media play in the Technical Theatre Arts. Occasionally there is the mention of Sound Design but no analysis of the importance of technology and media play as tools for storytelling. #TheatreLife #TheatreLighting #LightingDesign

I've been pretty quiet about my theatre work on here while something big has been brewing. As of New Year's Day, I'm going from assistant director to director and owner of East Coast Murder Mystery! Expect to see more theatre-related posts from me in the future, and for my company to join the fediverse!
