We discussed her autobiographical play, Pass The Matzo—a deeply moving exploration of family dynamics, racial identity, and the power of reconciliation, all centered around a Passover Seder. My high school daughter (the one in the long white fake-fur coat in the picture) directed her first play (“Bell, Book and Candle”) and today’s matinee was the final show. It was a real challenge and she even had to step in 4 days before opening night to play one of the roles. The show must go on! But it ended up being a big success. After the show the lead actress gave her flowers with a beautiful speech. I’m so proud of her. #ProudPapa

I’m fascinated by the recent trend in rejection letters from theatres. The first paragraph is all “we love it” and “we think x, y, and z are great”. But then comes the second paragraph where seemingly due to a force of nature or the vagaries of fate or the caprice of Apollo they couldn’t possible do the play.
