Do You Hear The People Sing? Singing The Song Of Sequined Teens?

The most important aspect of the State College Community Theater in its first fifty years was its summer educational program. Up to twenty teens apprenticed the different departments, and served as tech crew for each production. I was coordinator the final year of this terrific program in 2009. #theater #theatre #community #communitytheater #communitytheatre #statecollege #pennstate #centrecounty #pennsylvania #regionaltheater #regionaltheatre #theaterlife #theaterkids #theatermagic

I've always gone along with it, but you can now count me among the True Believers in the curse of the Scottish Play.

Kudos & heartfelt thanks to the cast & crew who got up there and, after several excellent performances, closed their run with their very best under trying circumstances.

Trial by fire forges something, blah, blah, blah.🫤

Future generations will tell the tale of the Cursed (that's two syllables, mind you) Prop Staff from Hell, and how it was often fiery, sometimes breakable, but Always Broken.

Correct pyro effect execution during the last practices 7/8.

Correct pyro effect execution during elementary and middle school previews: 0/4.

This is why we practice, folks.

Even 13yo me knew #pyro takes practice.

The only thing worse than rushing this stuff is being forced to rush the teaching of others.

It's tomorrow again.
Time for bed.

Lest you misunderstand, while it's true I hate much of what tends to happen over the course of these three weeks every year, I love hating it.

As the saying goes, 'if you know, you know'.

M7x.75 nut acquired! The show is saved!

(Stop laughing, this is a big deal.)

So tomorrow crew has exactly one dress rehearsal to dial up the sparks while dialing DOWN the fireball (both intensity and distance).🤞

In spite of bigoted colleagues, I've loved all my teaching experiences--bible school, public school, and theater education. I hope someday gay people are openly accepted in this profession. I chaperoned some high schoolers on a trip to Broadway yesterday.

Hadestown was better than I'd anticipated & no one got arrested.

That's what I call a win!

It’s the night before my theater kid’s performance so of course l will be spending it sewing a costume.

Did we procrastinate until the last minute? No, we weren’t given specs for what was needed until today. >.<

I was invited to a drama school today where the 11th grade class created a play based on one of my folktales. They wrote songs and fleshed out the characters and generally had tons of fun.

I love theater kids so much. ❤
