I had a wonderful time this past week in Switzerland. It doesn't matter the season, I just love visiting the Alps.

Plus I got to visit a friend in Alsace and do some stationary/pen shopping in Bern. It was solid trip.

The Alps and what you encounter there on the mountain is not always beautiful. Many sins of construction and old buildings simply remain standing and are left to their own devices.

A little more minimalism in the mountains and the “make new from old” approach would perhaps do some good sometimes.

We'd already been up the Tour d'Aï in summer, but it was just as incredible the second time around. The play of clouds and the incredible splendour of the flowers made this day truly unforgettable.

A magical day at Tour d'Aï. The clouds only revealed a little, never all, and it was like an ever-changing puzzle. The gaps in the clouds drew our attention to very specific details that we would probably never have noticed in pure sunshine.

I miss the mountains. This is Oeschinensee in Switzerland. One of my favorite hikes so far in Europe.

The Alps still have heavy snow with lots of roads and passes closed till June, but in about a month Lisa and I are headed to hike in the Dolomites which should be epic.

The last time I was there was fall a year and a half ago, so it will be cool to see them in late spring.
