The new mode is pretty fun, but I feel like the game does a really poor job of explaining the objective. I'm also disappointed with the Light loadout for the mode, and it makes me realize just how bad I am with bow. :(

I think the HP rebalancing was needed, but I think the movement speed changes were unnecessary. "Keeping teams closer together" just means "no more scouting before your teammates arrive at the objective" for Lights, IMO.

I agree, gas has been really underwhelming for a long time now, mostly because it's just way too easy to counter it. Pretty much every team you run into will have at least one source of fire, which just instantly negates the gas cloud basically for free. Meanwhile, fire will go basically unchallenged because nobody runs smokes.
