It didn't matter how much people warned me about how weird the final episode of The Prisoner was. There is simply no preparing for that.
Weird and perfect.
I can't understand why viewers at the time were upset. It's so perfect. How could they have expected something conventional after all that came before?

Sixty years ago today, a week after filming The Prisoner's opening title sequence in London, filming began on The Arrival (as the first episode was then known) at Portmeirion on Monday 5th September 1966.

One line from the last episode of #Silo S3 really caught me:
“Be seeing you”
Surely that had to be intentional?

The KAR 120C used in the original filming was a Lotus Super Seven Series II. McGoohan was originally going to drive a Lotus Elan for the series' opening, but, during a visit to the Lotus headquarters at Cheshunt, he spotted the Lotus 7 and decided to use it instead. The car was sold to Australia in 1967 and, sadly, was later written off in an accident. A 'double' for the original KAR 120C was used for certain scenes in Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darling and Fall Out.

I have no idea if the episodes would make more sense if I saw them all, and in order... but I do like the style. London looks so gorgeous in that final scene.

🎸 Our cover of the brilliant theme to the hour-long episodes of 1960s spy series Danger Man, forerunner to The Prisoner. Both starred Patrick McGoohan 👇

📺 Danger Man episode The Contessa (1961) featured guest star Hazel Court. There’s a jarring mention of ‘junkie’ from Drake which may have been unusual for TV at the time. Drake seems to be channelling Marlon Brando’s performance in On The Waterfront (1954) during his undercover work. The set-up in New York leads you to think Drake is about to take on Mafia hoods - but there’s a twist in the tale as Drake traces the source of the imported cocaine to Genoa.

The Criterion Channel added the full series of The Prisoner recently. I've been watching it as a soporific before bedtime. It's really quite terrible and boring; I might have to stop. But in episode 6, Number 6 destroys a computer by asking it a certain one-word question. Can you guess what the question is? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljGH07Unfe8&t=162s

Just finished watching episode one of The Prisoner for the first time ever and will definitely watch the rest of the series. Hello rabbit hole? Yes, it's me. I'm diving in. 😁
I've been aware of the show since I heard the Iron Maiden song waaay back when, but for some reason I never sat down and watched it. So glad I saw that Criterion Channel has it.

I'm not sure I really know what's going on, but I am increasingly intrigued. Guess I need to catch up on the eps I missed.
Thanks @[email protected] for showing #ThePrisoner, look forward to next week!
