It’s why, for all that it’s otherwise not a great episode, I think TNG’s Family exemplifies a lot of what I love about that show. After a traumatic incident, Picard goes home to rest and recuperate and ends up in tears, speaking aloud what he is most afraid of and most ashamed of. In front of another man, no less. And when he tells his brother that he “wasn’t strong enough”, he doesn’t mean, “wasn’t strong enough to kill the borg” he means “wasn’t strong enough to resist their mind control and save more people”.
