The Peel Sessions 1978
2026 Europe pressingSuper siked to snag this today.
When I was a kid, I bought a cassette version of this released by Strange Fruit. I drilled that tape into the ground, particularly that version of “Fire In Cairo”.
[cassette I had pictured below as well]I know there’s probably been about 50 different physical releases of these four Peel Sessions songs from ‘78, but I’ve never had a chance to replace my cassette copy until today.
These performances are great.
A young, scruffy, three-piece iteration of what would over time become one of the most important bands in the history of music.And again, I can’t stress this enough, this is my favorite version of “Fire In Cairo” that’s ever been committed to tape.
Great sounding pressing too.

The Cure came on in full sun, which is not the weather anyone associates with them. While waiting for the line for the bar to move on, I turned round to photograph the crowd. A sea of people stretched all the way to the distant trees and a manor in the background. Wow....
