While Elon Musk dumps a used car in space, an upper stage on the moon and burns hundreds of throw-away satellites in our atmosphere, Europe has strict rules on minimal impact of space debris and is researching how to do a Space Cowboys like cleanup system.

TIL (Today I learned): As part of the EU AI Act transparency rules, the EU has created a Code of Practice on marking and labelling of AI-generated content [1] that comes with icons [2] to use to mark AI-generated or modified content. As they say:
"The use of these EU icons is optional, but the labelling requirements under Article 50 AI Act are not."

In der Bahn über den DB Navigator online einchecken, sodass der Kontrolleur vorbeigeht, für den Flug sowieso vorher einchecken. Beim SkyTrain in Düsseldorf per Handy ein- und auschecken. Am Flughafen dann Self-Drop-Off für sein Gepäck machen. Digitalisierung in Deutschland ist besser als ihr Ruf.
Hätte ich meinen Perso vergessen, es wäre mir vielleicht erst beim Check-in hier im Hotel auf Madeira aufgefallen. Danke EU!

I also like how the court agrees with the EUIPO that they are free to make their decisions as EU institution. openAI‘s argument that they were able to register this trademark in other jurisdictions and thus the EUIPO should more or less just rubberstamp their application falls completely flat. Oh. And OpenAI has to pay all costs that this case incurred. Again, #ThanksEU, thanks @Curia :)

I have almost finished reading Michel Barnier's "My secret Brexit Diary". Today is the 10th anniversary of #Brexit. 10 years ago I said that this would make the #EU stronger. And while we are moving backwards wrt immigration, we also made huge leaps forward, especially in the past two years with trade deals like Mercosur EU, India, Australia etc. In sum I think Brexit was good for us. #ThanksEU

"Apple was simply unable to develop interoperability solutions that meet essential EU privacy and security standards," EU Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier said.
"Instead of trying to find a suitable compliance solution, Apple simply made a request to the European Commission to be exempted from their interoperability obligations under the DMA - and this for at least 18 months. That's not an option."

@jwildeboer Einmal in technischer Schnellübersetzung: „#Wero ist KEINE neue Zahlungsplattform, sondern eine dünne Schicht auf Basis von SEPA-Überweisungen. Es ist das Ergebnis vieler Jahre, in denen die Geldtransfersysteme in der EU schrittweise vereinheitlicht wurden: Internationale Banküberweisungen wurden günstiger, kleine Transaktionen praktikabel – und jetzt vereinfacht Wero die Nutzung all dessen. Das ist ein sehr europäischer Ansatz, und ich mag ihn! #ThanksEU
(Ja, für manche Teile wird AWS genutzt. Genau wie bei vielen anderen Banking-Apps auch. Das soll künftig geändert werden – also gebt dem etwas Zeit :) (1/2)

#Wero is NOT a new payment platform, it's a thin layer on top of SEPA transfers. It's the culmination of many years of slowly unifying the money transfer systems in the EU, driving down costs of international bank transfers, making small transactions feasible and now Wero simplifies the use of all of this. It's a very European approach and I like it! #ThanksEU
(Yes, it uses AWS for some parts. Just like many other banking apps do. They are planning to change that, so give it some time :)

The European Commission @EUCommission now lists #Mastodon as first social media channel in their page footer [1] (The Twitter/X logo is now gone ;). And on the EU website you can now filter for Mastodon social media accounts [2].

In 2019, on March 26th, the EU Parliament confirmed the TRAN ( European Parliament Transport and Tourism Committee) decision to support the EU commission proposal to get rid of the summer/winter clock change. So tonight we will enter year 8 of waiting for the Council of the European Union to do their part in the process so we can finally rid ourselves of this useless theater. #ThanksEU

Seems my spam reports are upsetting a spammer who tries to subscribe me to weird mailing lists and swinger groups. LOL. Good thing is that EU regulations require a double opt-in so I just ignore the "please confirm" mails.

Small anecdote: my 20-year old daughter is currently traveling in Asia. Some days back out of nowhere she said: "Europe is actually pretty cool: potable tap water and rule of law." (She had an accident and had to deal with local police.)
