Thalidomide – Trust the Science
1950s: Thalidomide approved as safe in pregnancy, and doctors put in the cigarette adverts. Trust the Science.
It took five years for the connection between thalidomide taken by pregnant people and the impact on their children to be made. Not only did thalidomide change people’s lives, but it resulted in tighter drug testing and reporting of side-effects.
Please read that again. Five years! So, we can wait a bit for more of the side effects of the Covid and latest “Flu” Jabs …….
Developed by Chemie Grünenthal in West Germany, thalidomide was sold as a mild sedative and morning sickness remedy in the late 1950s.
It was marketed as safe for pregnant women without proper pre-market testing on embryonic development or placental transfer.
The resulting global crisis left over 10,000 children with severe birth defects.
The disaster was contained in the United States because FDA pharmacologist Dr. Frances Kelsey demanded rigorous safety and clinical data before approval, proving that strict adherence to empirical evidence protects public health.

Uses of thalidomide today
In 1964, doctor Jacob Sheskin at Jerusalem’s Hadassah University Hospital, gave one of his patients thalidomide to help with a severe complication of leprosy.
As a result, the World Health Organisation (WHO) ran a clinical trial on the use of thalidomide for leprosy in 1967. And after more positive results, thalidomide was used as a treatment for leprosy in many countries.
More recently, it has been used successfully to control some AIDS-related conditions, and as a targeted cancer drug for treating the symptoms of cancers such as multiple myeloma.
There you have it. I would STRONGLY suggest that, if you are on ANY medication , prescribed especially, do some research of what all is in the shit!

Thinking about all this stuff where people are trying to link #vaccines and other #medicines (like the mellinia old #tylenol) to the supposedly large increase in the rate of #autism, and it's reminding me of something...
When my mother was #pregnant with my older brother, there was some sort of gas leak, and she was exposed to fumes which gave her headaches over several months. My mother was otherwise not really exposed to many drugs: she remembered the #thalidomide scandal. When my brother was a baby, he began displaying #autistic behaviors before he had his first #vaccine.
What occurs to me as I think about it now is, there is a lot of talk about commonplace and relatively safe #medications and vaccines supposedly causing autism to climb significantly (of which I have doubts), but none of these people seem to be talking about the various and increasingly exotic #pollution that pregnant women are exposed to on a regular basis...

Are #DavidDanks, prof of data science, philosophy and policy at UCal, & #MikeKirby, prof of computing at UUtah using these restricted business /#CorporateEthics when they avoid considering the responsibilities of those who create and release innovations into the public sphere?There seems a sad parallel between their approach and considering whether the delivery truck driver or the tableting machine manufacturer have responsibility for the #Thalidomide disaster.

The recent apologies for victims of #thalidomide suggest that their suffering wasn't compensated or acknowledged.
My mother tells the opposite story from her social services work in the #UK. She suggested that the thalidomide clients were all well compensated whereas those unfortunate enough to have similar disabilities without having mothers' who'd taken the drugs were the worst off.

Remember, the effects from the drug thalidomide, that was given to pregnant women, wasn't fully realized until years after it being prescribed regularly. The insidiousness of big pharma hasn't changed much. Remember that.
