I think what hurts the #QR payment method branding the most is how even when it's advertised as it just works, even across countries, it's not that uncommon for there to be some weird gotchas.

For example, even within Malaysia itself, dumbasses like #TouchNGo loves 'gatekeeping' some QR payment options to only work with their e-Wallet and not the national standard, #DuitNow. In other cases, there might be instances where you'd think paying to this QR would work when that QR works and they all look the same - turns out that's not the case cos one's a merchant QR and the other's a personal QR. Pretty fucking dumb and unnecessary distinction/incompatibility (imo).

Same experience when going abroad e.g. Thailand. Some QRs, you could make payments to it. Other QRs, even when they're branding the same 'logo' e.g. #ThaiQR, it ends up not working cos of some arbitrary distinction. They really gotta fix this. Now, I'm wondering if it's the same experience for travellers coming to Indonesia.. I gotta find a 'merchant' QR and a 'personal' QR to see if I could scan and make payments to them.
