Auch ich halte ein gemäßigtes Schrumpfen von Bevölkerungen für durchaus vorteilhaft. Bei einer Geburtenrate (TFR) von 1,8 ginge jede Generation um 12-15% zurück. Das wären in Deutschland 10-12 Millionen Menschen, ein großes Bundesland. Viel, aber etwa durch Technologien & Integration gut schaffbar.
Unter einer TFR von 1,6 wird es aber zunehmend kritisch mit Wirtschaft, Sozialstaat, auch Integration - schnell schrumpfende Gesellschaften, auch Demokratien driften in die Traditionalismusfalle & Rechtsmimesis. Etwa Südkorea, Japan, China, die USA, aber auch Deutschland, die Schweiz & Österreich. Und darauf hinzuweisen finde ich wichtig.

Core to their argument was the unmarked vehicles which they said created a “flotilla of invisible, moving bubbles,” according to court documents. “Under any standard, the TFR’s chilling sweep violates the #FirstAmendment as applied to the Petitioner’s use of drones in #photojournalism.”

This #elpasoairport #tfr has some super strange vibes.
1. Civilian aviation and commercial pilots say it's strange
2. A fireball was seen across 4 states, low and rumbly and in Mordoc (~100km north of elpaso)
3. White Sands weapons test ground is just north, also a historical #uap sighting, including abductions.
4. Anectodal evidence of strange lights.
5. Video of strange lights from the airport (likely mast warning from the hills though)
6. Actual exclusion zone West of the city (UAP crash! (Not my speculation))
7. Apparently magnetic anomaly
8. Not far (aviation wise) from Roswell.
I'm sure we have not heard everything about this.

「Transnet personnel changes paying off
Coal export volumes railed to #RichardsBay were up more than 10% in the December quarter, and port backlogs are declining.
Then #PublicEnterprises Minister Pravin #Gordhan took a meat cleaver to the board.
In came #MineralsCouncil vice-president Andile #Sangqu as chair of #Transnet in July 2023, giving a voice to the company’s largest customer, the mining sector – accounting for roughly 80% of Transnet Freight Rail’s business and 50% of overall revenue. The board was loaded with engineers, industry representatives and labour, people who knew how to run an enterprise of this complexity.
Out went #Derby and #Mzimela, replaced by Michelle #Phillips as acting group CEO and Russell #Baatjies as acting CEO for freight rail.
Several former Transnet executives who left the organisation over the years have been lured back, including former programme director Marc Descoins.
#Havenga says several other former top executives have been roped into the Transnet recovery plan, many of them with salaries paid by #BusinessSouthAfrica.
Encouraging signs of progress
Writing in Moneyweb last week, Juanita Maree, CEO of the SA Association of Freight Forwarders – which sounded the alarm on Transnet a year ago – noted the encouraging signs of progress since business got involved in the #NLCC. The turnaround at #Durban Container Terminal Pier 2, with a recovery plan crafted and implemented by the crisis committee, will remove the vessel backlog by the end of this month.
“Cabinet’s approval and activation of the Freight Logistics Roadmap also opens the way for reviving a properly resourced, inter-modal, world-class logistics network for South Africa and the region,” says Maree.

The new management team led by Phillips and Baatjies has changed the culture and mood at Transnet, adds Havenga.
“The improvements we have seen in the last few months have all been achieved without massive investment in locomotives and wagons. These improvements are the result of operating smarter. Transnet has a rail network of about 21 000km, but virtually all of its rail revenue comes from just 1 500km of that network. That’s where we need to focus the attention.
“If we can improve turnaround times on the #Sishen-#SaldanhaBay railway line so we get trains turned around in 80 hours instead of 100 hours, that means we can run an extra train a day using the same rolling stock we have. And this can be done.”
The 861km Sishen-Saldanha line between the #NorthernCape and the port of Saldanha Bay in the #WesternCape handles most of the country’s iron ore exports, and its efficiency has had a direct impact on the revenue and profits of #Kumba Iron Ore and other iron ore exporters.

It seems like slowly some good news begin to trickle out from #Transnet:
「New public-private rail corridor agreement already boding well – RBCT

Between November 2023 and today, the initiative has enabled the #PPP to procure locomotive spares in the form of batteries and compressors.
The initiative is delivering a jointly managed project plan and looking at a joint Transnet-#RBCT assessment for the corridor.
Within the period, #TFR proved that it can consistently deliver coal volumes of more than a million tons a week.
An initiative is already in place to renew from April improved 24-hour rail line security surveillance by RBCT, Rapid Rail Police and Transnet.
Procurement processes are being speeded up and every effort is being made to maintain and enhance efficiencies and signalling.
Working with Transnet has already reduced the export cycle time. Work is under way to cut this from 99 hours to 75 hours on certain aspects of the corridor and to decrease loading and offloading time.
“We now have visibility and involvement around what we can do together and how we can, as industry, also assist, because this is for the benefit of everyone.
“We’ve also looked at the improvement of the rolling stock and making sure that the inspections that are happening on the line are proper, the improvement of the overhead traction equipment in the system and, most importantly, we’re in the joint planning process with TFR.
“Our 30-trains-per-day process has already started working. There is very strong ambition coming from RBCT and very strong support coming from Transnet and we’re going to try to get the volumes back to their former glory,” Damasane told the many journalists covering the online event. 」
