Did I mention that I once wrote a very small #textadventure #game for the #Sharp #pocketcomputer models 1403 and 1248?
It's called #PocketQuest and you can get it here:

Playing Catacombs on my Commodore PET. Published by Super soft in 1981. Possibly one of the first British written text adventures.
I moved around a bit and asked for my score.
This seems prescient.

@kyonshi I looked around at various lists of best loved Infocom adventures and added them to my plan (https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/z1xo8c163g5bfd9p0lt7w/Adventure-game-plan.md?rlkey=5vp89hdyrymkrsij29o0hup0d&st=n9ca76cb&dl=0). I have found a friend willing to play through them with me, so I'm going to start off with another crack at Zork, invisiclues in hand - even though it's probably not the best it's just so influential and I really want that context.

Mistodon: looking for representation from the non-fiction field for last month's new literary MIST0426 artpack collection, Cthulu opted to make an #ANSIart adaptation of the maze-like cover art to @nickmofo 's 2005 history of the #textadventure computer game genre, #TwistyLittlePassages.

Ah, yes, the pinnacle of #gaming evolution: a text adventure that demands #JavaScript. 🧐💾 How revolutionary to force us back into the 80s only to realize we can't load it without modern tech! 🤦♂️ Truly, #nostalgia wrapped in a web of #irony.

tinkering with #durexforth on the
#Commodore64, doing some #retrocodingI have compiled Durexforth from source, using the "master" branch. The main reason for this being that - unlike the official 5.0.0 release - the most recent code allows the S" word to be used in interactive mode.
Even more interesting is the fact that there already is a COUNT word but not its counterpart PLACE - so I provided that myself. And that eventually enabled me to provide a new, custom word: S, (which you may know from gforth)
S, will add a counted string to the dictionary, starting at HERE
Which eventually gives us a the ability to create nice lists of strings. 💡
Now, why do all of this (despite having fun)? 🤔
Well, remember when I put together a two-word parser for a simple #textadventure #game in DX-Forth on CP/M? 🔄
(https://oldbytes.space/@Wintermute_BBS/115996588963884170)With my additions in place that code now also runs on Durexforth without any changes (despite ASCII to PETSCII conversion) .... yay!

I wanted to share a fun little text adventure game I made a couple of years back for a friend's birthday. He's big into D&D homebrew, and he was in the middle of creating a world called Endaria for his group to play several campaigns in. I made him a birthday card with references and clues to get to this game on the web, and he really enjoyed it.
My game is nothing fancy and very short, but I had a lot of fun making it and I just wanted to share the fun. Enjoy!
