Is there any LaTeX editor fox Linux that lets us put the preview on another window for multi-monitor use?

@shom I used #freesoftware to slice up and merge PDFs from various textbooks to produce reading packets. (#TeXLive's #pdfjam, also recommend @pdfarranger).
Took the trouble to get them approved by the copyright compliance police in University Libraries. Been distributing them with a clear conscience and a light heart for many years.
I hope I have students who will remember me the way you remember that teacher of yours.

You know that you are a nerd, when you spent half an hour to get the page number of the index entry for recursion into the displayed pages of the #recursion entry.

At the ConTeXt intro workshop last Wednesday, participants struggled with ConTeXt on the newly released TeX Live 2026.
Not the usual about wrong paths or unwritable cache directories.ConTeXt was apparently correctly installed, generating the file database and the format was working, but then it couldn’t find the format file if the "context" or "mtxrun" command wasn’t called with its full path.
TeX Live’s processes were changed before this release and something’s broken.

TeX Live 2026 is released - mirror updates are running! #TeXlive https://www.preining.info/blog/2026/03/tex-live-2026-released/

The announced update has happened.
Beware of changes WRT footnotes!
Full announcement:
https://mailman.ntg.nl/archives/list/n[email protected]/thread/DGZ4OPUVDEI7BW6FSTZ5RUXIFZ3QHIKX/Another addition is:
\setuplayout[grid=snapping]
different grid snapping model that delegates more to the TeX engine. Some info in beyond-snapping.tex; still experimental. Some mechanisms (like section heads & math) accept a snapping parameter.Several bug fixes & small enhancements.
Wolfgang updated the interface definition files!

The #TeXLive 2026 pretest has started. I activated the pretest builds within our #IslandOfTeX #docker images yesterday.
So in case you want to help testing wthout killing/replacing your local installation feel free to use those. e.g. the full image is available via:
registry.gitlab.com/islandoftex/images/texlive:pretest-full
Rebuild will happen daily to keep you up to date.
Thanks for helping!More Information on the pretest can be found at https://www.tug.org/texlive/pretest.html

@halfa Might be too late, but next time maybe the DEPendency Printer for #TeXLive might help.
https://gitlab.com/islandoftex/texmf/depp
There's still a few things on the todo list, but for the last projects I didn't have to add anything manually except additional binaries.

Although I have discontinued support and further development of the #TeXLaTeX package #marginnote, I have moved development from #github to #Codeberg, created another release, and also uploaded it to #CTAN. #TeXLive has already adopted the new release. The change it contains to column detection in native twocolumn mode comes from TeX.SX user cabohah. A new maintainer is still being sought.

I can always count on TeX Live to make every upgrade take at least half an hour. I know I probably don't need all those *-doc packages, but still.

Over here at @arXiv we have released our new submission system as well as update to #TeXLive 2025! Yeah! Read the announcements here:

Wer arbeitet hier auch regelmäßig mit #LaTeX ?
Does anybody work regularly with LaTeX?
In my opinion it should be used more in #school or #university. It is so much powerful for writing reports or something like that.

That's three boxes updated to #trixie now. The last one was a bit of a challenge: I run a reasonably full installation on it, including #GNOME and #TeXLive. Two of my partitions, /var and /, were not quite big enough for the installation, so I needed to move some files around.
At least apt advises you and stops if there's insufficient room for the downloads...
Two boxes left, but neither is pure #Debian : #osmc and #RaspberryPiOS (Debian doesn't run on an #RPi5 yet).

Wow. I am impressed by selnolig.sty a #texlive package that deals with ligatures. Did not know how many ligatures are possible in principle.
I am quite good in spotting misplaced ligatures in German, but some effects in English are rather minimal. Do you see them?
One needs morphology to do this package.
Now that we switched to #lualatex, we can use it. \o/

The pretest für #TeXLive 2025 has started!
In case you want to help finding bugs before the release have a look at https://www.tug.org/texlive/pretest.html
You can also install it additionally to your normal #TeX environment and fall back in case you face any issues. But it's always better to find issues as early as possible.
Of course we are building docker images for the pretest on the #IslandOfTeX again. I'll add more information as soon as they are published.

Service toot: Just in case you need a reason to update your #TeXLive:
#minted finally release the 3.0.0 which provides an own binary which makes the python/ #pygments setup obsolete. This also drops the requirement of shell-escape (or different hacks) to use the syntax highlighting.
Ensure to not only update the package itself, as you also need to update the settings which allow it to run in restricted mode.

#TeX / #TeXLaTeX infrastructure has grown wild in huge parts. Trials to modernize are in progress. One step recently taken is presented by Didier Verna talking about the TFM (TeX Font Metrics) validator.
The daily results for #TeXLive are published via https://texlive.info/tfm-validate/fonts.html
And it's not surprising to see that as soon as there are tests one finds issues in published projects. Totally matches my findings. We need more automated testing!
And I know it's a lot of work…
