Y’all, here is the damndest thing. So, possessed kewpie doll and plastic surgery model, Don #Huffines, the #GuardiansofPedophiles candidate for #Comptroller of #Texas, well sir, it turns out that he secretly bought #Epstein ‘s #Lolita baby farm in New Mexico. I mean, he didn’t do it under his own name, the #EpsteinClass never does, but trusts have records, and journalists know where to look.

A Trump endorsed #GOP candidate bought the Pedo Ranch. Because of course he did.

Y’all, I’m thinking we don’t need red string to connect all these folks together. They’re just throwing it in our faces at this point.

    Support independent journalism. #TexasTribune

    >“The Teamsters do not care if you have a D, an R or an I next to your name,” Taylor said at a news conference in Houston last Wednesday. “We’re interested in one thing. Are you ready to help us tackle big issues to improve the lives of working families?”

And this is why trade unionism by itself is never gonna lead to liberation. Fighting for bigger scraps of the imperial pie is a losing battle.

    >Federal judge appears ready to dismiss 2 of 14 charges in Henry Cuellar’s bribery case
    >
    >The dismissal comes after Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a memo narrowing the enforcement of laws relating to foreign lobbying and bribery.

Lol. Lmao even. "Yeah, we don't really care about those crimes anymore."

P.S. - The Democratic party favored this guy, considered one of the most conservative Democrats, over the progressive seeking to unseat him in 2020 (and 2022), Jessica Cisneros.

    >Some people don’t have a choice but to live in flood-prone areas, where land is typically cheaper. **Often, cities and towns only allow cheaper housing like mobile and manufactured homes to go in places that carry a higher risk of flooding**, said Andrew Rumbach, a senior fellow at the Urban Institute who studies climate risk. When a weather disaster destroys a mobile home park, often it gets rebuilt right where it was, Rumbach said.

    Well that's stupid and backwards.

  5. Gov. Greg Abbott was initially resistant to the plan pushed by President Donald Trump’s political team to pick up new GOP seats through a rare mid-decade redistricting, according to two people who have spoken to Abbott and the White House about the behind-the-scenes discussions.

  6. CW: Case study and helpful advice for citizen journalists

#TexasTribune knocks it out of the park with this piece.

Journalism started with people like the immediate subject of this report. A free press is a continuum starting with one notebook, a pen and a pair of eyes and ears, plus a dash of gumption.

Good comportment and proper decorum is not a guarantee of risk-free newsgathering (obvs). But the article touches on the general stakes touched by organic journalists while pursuing stories, and how important it is to follow conventions even when the outcome is wrong and unfair.

As well, practical advice on how to improve net results.

The couple stopped living together more than a year ago "on or about June 1, 2024" according to a copy's obtained by The #TexasTribune www.texastribune.org/2025/07/10/a...

    >Darby’s bill, House Bill 49, says that after an oil company agrees to sell the water for beneficial use by someone else, it is generally not liable if there are consequences later on. Neither are the companies treating the water. The bill also protects landowners who pay to treat the water and sell it, including in cases of personal injury, death, or property damage.
    >
    >...
    >
    >Dan Mueller, an engineer and a produced water expert, agreed that there is not enough data to issue permits. Mueller raised concerns about the capability of the treatment technologies, saying the five pilot projects have not been running long enough to ensure they clean the water reliably.

No shit. Fracking water contains hundreds of different contaminants. It's literally the most challenging filtration and cleaning project you could design. The suggestion that an anemically funded state consortium has cracked that nut in four years is absurd.

    >Lozano, with the industry trade group, said there are no existing protections for oil and gas companies that treat and sell the water, adding that treatment gives them another alternative for the excess.
    >
    >“If this segment of the industry cannot develop and mature, it could impact the record production that has occurred in the Permian Basin,” he said.

Translation: we don't want to have to account for our externalities, and would really rather push those onto the people.

    >Disclosure: Environmental Defense Fund and Permian Basin Petroleum Association have been financial supporters of The Texas Tribune, a nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization that is funded in part by donations from members, foundations and corporate sponsors. Financial supporters play no role in the Tribune's journalism. Find a complete list of them here.

Well I guess that explains the both-sidesing that the article engages in.

    >The committee substitute adds that term back in, but says a doctor does not need to wait until the patient has experienced physical impairment or the risk of death is imminent before they intervene. Life-threatening, the bill specifies, means “capable of causing death or potentially fatal. A life-threatening physical condition is not necessarily one actively injuring the patient.”
    >
    >One example described in a committee meeting is of a pregnant woman who has cancer, which is expected to become life-threatening over weeks or months if she is unable to be treated due to her pregnancy. Under this clarifying bill, a doctor could perform an abortion even though she is not facing an emergent risk of death.

Better than nothing, but still leaves the door open for litigious actors to wreak havoc in the courts over whether or not any particular intervention ultimately meets the standard. Hopefully, the medical community stands in solidarity against such litigation.

Texas typically has a dismal voter turnout, and I'd love to see the results were that not the case.

The Texas Tribune has an excellent voter guide. No endorsements, just what you need to know to vote in the state.

    texastribune.org/2024/08/21/te

Oct 7th is the last day to register, and at this point I encourage you to do so in person to ensure you make it in under the deadline.

If you're in Texas and able to vote please do!

  12. I've learned that Mack has gone on to compete in college wrestling in men's competition. He’s now an advocate for trans rights in Texas and works to protect trans youth.

I've also learned people in the trans community are pretty decently aware of him. As a cishet dude, I was not.

Thanks, Texas GOP, for making me aware of this awesome man, and confirming I should vote for Colin Allred over Rafael Cruz.

  13. Texas Tribune reporting 46 out of 57 arrested have been released and charges dropped!

Also making a lot of catty remarks about "outside" influence but as we just saw from the official UT Austin press release -anyone- can host an event practicing any protected 1A speech on the campus.

I wonder why there's so much scrutiny this time? 🤔
