    In 1941, Sabine Farms homesteaders near Marshall, TX did something pragmatic and quietly radical: they collectively contracted with Dr. A.O. Lee for medical care. Pooling resources for a Black physician in Jim Crow Texas meant building a parallel system of survival outside hostile institutions.
