In my misspent youth, during my irresponsible tweens, as Tolkien's hobbits would have called them, I took to the open road for what I termed a wanderjahr. When I was rich, I saw the sights; when I was poor, I would take a job until I was rich again.
This one is about the South Island in 1985. It was mostly written back then, all I had to do now is to brush it up.
It's about 10,000 words, a 50 minute read.

We drove home to Ōtautahi-Christchurch from Blackball yesterday afternoon and whoo-whee did the Southern Alps turn on the scenery.

Perennially one of my favourite spots. The walk from Cape Farewell to Triangle Flat affords incredible panoramic views of Onetahua/Farewell Spit, the Old Man Range, and Puponga.
