Artist notes: The November morning holds promise as the fog drifts low on Active Pass and swirls below a bright blue sky punctuated by wispy clouds in Miners Bay. The Springwater Lodge flanks the shore with aging superiority. I pause and wait, for something, anything really, to break the spell.

Please note that our physical gallery pod is still closed for a while longer due to site renovations. If this painting is still an available, it will be in the first show when the space is reopens again, likely in early October.

Another four of my paintings have recently sold to art collectors. This year has been going fairly well so far. I have completed and released 19 paintings and sold 18 from my inventory. This success is partly due to my milestone birthday surprise special but not entirely. Still, I am humbly grateful regardless of the reason.

From spring to fall, I can be found around our small southwest coast of Canada island with an easel set up to plein air paint. These small or larger loosely painted surfaces become works in their own right but are also used for other studio works later on.

As a landscape painter, there is a lot of pleasure in spending 30 - 60 minutes at a time brushing in the world around me. I leave with fresh excitement and ideas that carry me through the rest of the day and week.

In the last five weeks, nine of my paintings have found homes. There are still 135 available out of about 600 paintings I have created in the past twelve years. I had to think long and hard about the best way to share this news here on Mastodon with alt text. But I think I got it!

It is kind of a big deal finding homes for paintings and certainly several over a short amount of time is newsworthy, yes? However, I am having a milestone birthday and this is how I am celebrating!

Artist Notes: It is midday at the end of June. There is a breeze in Oyster Bay on Mayne Island and quickly changing filtered light that make for ideal plein air painting conditions. I take it! Knowing where the sun will be in an hour and that the tide is on its way in helps to brush this fresh view lightly into place.

Today’s work saw the finishing of a new painting to the point of resting. It was a workout in neutrals and finding midrange greys but worth the effort.

Artist notes: I have been up to The Basilica of Sacré Coeur for sunrise. It is mid June so sunrise is early. On my way back I stop just before I get to the top of Rue Drevet Stairs and crunch real low to get my reference image. As soon as I framed the view, I knew I was going to paint it. That was June 15, 2014. I have now painted it and it is June 14, 2023. Nine years later and I can still feel the pleasure of these champagne buildings catching the soft morning light

I am celebrating the first day of Spring this year with on of my cherry blossom paintings. After six weeks of working on a larger canvas I am just not quite ready to share, I have started a 20 x16 inch oil on canvas of Arbutus Trees. Over the next couple of days I will finish it up wet-into-wet and then let it dry a bit possible before adding final highlights.

This particular Maple tree is excellent council on the strength of persistence and creativity. She is a gentle woman tree who guards the trail and brushes me with her falling leaves as she lets go of the southwest coast November sky…..

Artist notes: On November 30, 2021 at 4:51 pm I was coming home from a friends and looked up to see the third in a parade of atmospheric rivers turning a bend overhead. I was so astonished that I pulled over to take a closer look and took a few reference images. I know right then and there that this beauty was going under the brush. Usually we do not get to see the power and size of these phenomena because the heavy rains is coming down all around us and visibility is poor. Not the case this time! People saw it all around the area from sea to shore.
