  1. The "Dropping The Pilot" cartoon was drawn by John Tenniel in 1890, for #Punch magazine. It depicts the momentous sacking of Germany's long-serving Chancellor Otto von #Bismarck by young Kaiser Wilhem II, and is one of the most famous cartoons ever. It has been widely adapted.

#Tenniel was Punch's cartoonist for 50 years, but best known for his illustrating Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland series. He was the first British cartoonist to be knighted.

The Dalziel Brothers did a great job engraving this Tenniel picture, with a stuck-up Queen Alice knocking on a Royal door (in Norman style) with her scepter while the frog servant holds a rake.

The Dalziel Brothers were a respectable London firm of engravers for many years and did a lot of great work.

  3. John Tenniel is famous for illustrating Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through The Looking-Glass.
Here is his darker depiction of a view through the looking-glass, revealing a seamstress who died doing round the clock overtime to meet the demands of the high-society Season.
One wonders what Tenniel would have made of modern fast fashion.
