A viral video promises a ghost in the machine. The real ghosts of science are stranger, and they had to earn the name. A reader sent me a short video this week with the kind of claim that arrives already glowing. A Russian scientist, the narrator says, shone laser light through a sealed vacuum chamber. Empty, the light scattered at random. Drop in a sample of DNA, and the photons arranged themselves into the shape of a double helix, as if the molecule had taught the light how to hold a form. Then comes the part that makes people forward the video to friends. The scientist removed the DNA, disturbed nothing else, and shone the light again. The helix pattern was still there. After setting up the Unifi Travel Router, I couldn't access my synology from my iPad (connected via ethernet to the UTR). Turns out it may be an issue with Safari (though maybe not a Safari issue, specifically).
I don't have a valid cert on my synology as it's only accessible on the local network. So normally when I enter the IP address, I get Safari's "may not be secure" warning then proceed.
But today, when I tap through to proceed to the site while connected over Teleport, it never leaves the error screen. I was also able to repro when trying to connect to my UDM (unifi router). But when I try either in Chrome on the iPad, it's able to open the sites. I'm also able to connect to the Synology, and my desktop Mac file share, via the Files app.

Before I started my #kubernets journey, I saw a meme that said as much "a #k8s cluster, needs a k8s cluster to manage it". I thought that was just a funny joke. But now that I started thinking about things like SSO with #authentic, maybe #powerdns, secret management, potentially add a PAM solution like #teleport ... I think it would be nice if these are available even if the prod. #cluster is down. And the easiest way to do that is... a Kubernetes cluster 😂 #selfhosting #homelab
