  1. A quotation from Homer

And, oh! whate’er Heaven destined to betide,
Let neither flattery soothe, nor pity hide.
Prepared I stand: he was but born to try
The lot of man; to suffer, and to die.

Homer (fl. 7th-8th C. BC) Greek author
    The Odyssey [Ὀδύσσεια], Book 3, l. 96ff (3.96) (c. 700 BC) [tr. Pope (1725), l. 114ff]

  2. A quotation from Homer

Few match their fathers. Any tongue can tell
The more are worse: yea, almost none their sires excel.

Homer (fl. 7th-8th C. BC) Greek author
    The Odyssey [Ὀδύσσεια], Book 2, l. 276ff (2.276) [Athena to Telemachus] (c. 700 BC) [tr. Worsley (1861), st. 37]

  3. A quotation from Homer

O prince, in early youth divinely wise,
Born, the Ulysses of thy age to rise
If to the son the father’s worth descends,
O’er the wide wave success thy ways attends
    To tread the walks of death he stood prepared;
And what he greatly thought, he nobly dared.

Homer (fl. 7th-8th C. BC) Greek author
    The Odyssey [Ὀδύσσεια], Book 2, l. 271ff (2.271-274) (c. 700 BC) [tr. Pope (1725)]

  4. So, the last movie hubby and I (and our shared bestie) saw in a theatre was #Dune. I think we need to see #TheOdyssey on the big screen. I mean, #Circe, Penelope, #Telemachus #Oikos ("homecoming" not the yogurt)?! This looks like it covers most of the important stuff!

  5. In the winter of 1971 photographer Jim McCrary photographed Carole King for her Tapestry album. Remembering a Kodak survey that said cats were the most popular subject people photographed (after their own children), McCrary asked if he could add the sleeping cat on the other side of the room to the scene. Telemachus, the cat, only remained for three pictures ... but that was enough.

That image, and the album's music have been ingrained in my mind. I've always tried to make Tapestry the first album I play when I move into a new home because that's exactly how I want my home to feel.
