Erfolgreicher Angriff auf den #Messenger #TeleGuard
Der Schweizer Messenger TeleGuard verspricht die „weltbeste Verschlüsselung“. Sicherheitsforscher konnten dennoch erfolgreich Nachrichten abfangen.

A secure messaging app called TeleGuard has been found to have encryption so flawed that security researchers describe it as meaningless. The app, downloaded over a million times and marketed as Swiss-made with end-to-end encryption, actually transmits users' private keys to its servers, enabling the company to decrypt all messages. https://www.404media.co/a-secure-chat-apps-encryption-is-so-bad-it-is-meaningless/ #Media #SocialMedia #DataPrivacy #TeleGuard

Is it a backdoor if it's in the front, and the keys are ON TOP of the mat? #teleguard https://www.404media.co/a-secure-chat-apps-encryption-is-so-bad-it-is-meaningless/

When a CEO of a encrypted messaging app does this, after having vulnerabilities verified by trail of bits, run in the other direction:
'told 404 Media in a LinkedIn direct message: “The information is incorrect! The person who gave you the technical information has completely misled you. That person is not competent!”'

A Secure #Chat App’s #Encryption Is So Bad It Is ‘Meaningless’
TeleGuard, an app that markets itself as a secure, end-to-end encrypted messaging platform …implements its encryption so poorly that an attacker can trivially access a user’s private key & decrypt their messages,…#TeleGuard also uploads users’ private keys to a company server, … could decrypt its users’ messages, & the key can also at least partially be derived from simply intercepting a user’s traffic

I thought I was being scammed earlier, while I was out, as someone was being really insistent that I get a Teleguard messenger.account so we can chat!
- I didn't and haven't joined or downloaded it, because I was waiting to get back home to see if it was a scam, but it actually exists, and operates off all the OS's. However I still don't know anyone using it, that I would actually want to be in regular contact with!
Interesting though? -

@bead @ErikJonker @geopolitics Don't mean to be too critical, but to me that reads more like a press release than an actual review by someone who's used #TeleGuard.
Also, and maybe this is just me, but one of the things I look for is the ability to send automated messages to myself from a server (or from something like Home Assistant, though I don't personally use that). With #Signal it can be done using a program called signal-cli, which is not even remotely easy to get set up and working, but at least it is doable. I believe it relies on an API. As far as I can tell, TeleGuard does not offer such functionality. I would be interested in knowing if there is something similar to Signal or TeleGuard that makes it relatively easy to send automated messages to myself, in addition to being used for normal chat, BUT it must also have the following qualities:
Free.
Preferably does NOT require a phone number.
NOT XMPP or XMPP-based!!!
Does not use email as its underlying transport mechanism.
MUST support desktop users running Linux, MacOS, or Windows (if you have to use it on a phone I want no part of it).
Relatively easy to set up a command line interface that will accept messages from other programs and send them out.
Signal checks all those boxes other than having the relatively easy to set up command line interface, and the phone number requirement. TeleGuard doesn't appear to have any kind of command line interface program at all, and I'm still not fully clear on whether it is free, and what functionality is missing if you don't pay? What other alternatives might exist that are NOT based on XMPP or email?
-
@seyon @daniel Still not going to work because few people want to use an app they have never heard of, on a server neither they nor their friends have ever heard of, using a server that might be run by some scammer in Nigeria or Russia or China for all they know. And also they absolutely will not pay for such a service when all the better known services are free, and they're not going to set up their own #XMPP server because that's not something that interests them in the slightest, plus there are no really good videos that show how to do it (not that it would make a difference for most people, but it might for a few).
If you are willing to run a server AND be their lifetime technical support, then you might stand a shot, but beware - what was once easy to set up and use can become far more difficult as time goes by. Software authors all seem to have some disease that forces them to make changes to perfectly good and working software that breaks things, or compromises privacy or does some other bad thing. So while running a XMPP server might seem like a fun project today, it may not seem like much fun at all in a few months or years.
Much easier to just use something like #Signal. but in saying that I realize the fact they demand a phone number is a huge drawback. #Teleguard (https://teleguard.com/en) looks like a possible alternative, it does not require a phone number and it looks like the basic features are free but some other features (such as Zoom-like conferencing) cost money, and as I said few people will pay for something they can get free on a larger or better known platform. But it hardly ever gets mentioned so I am wondering if there is some hidden drawback to it.
