  1. When I got home last night, I discovered for the second time this week that our fancy new #Telus fibre Internet was completely down. It was fixed after 4+ hours down Tuesday, requiring a tech to come out late. Then I left from Wednesday morning to Thursday night and it went down again at some point in there.

In the many years I was on #TekSavvy DSL, there were rare outages, usually something on Bell's end. I don't think any lasted more than an hour or two. Not a single one required a tech to come and reconfigure anything.

I'm sure this is an anomaly but so far I'm not fully convinced of the standard claim that fibre is just so much more reliable than DSL. It was much faster when it works. It's also more expensive and these extended outages are a pretty big problem.

  6. My home internet was down over the weekend.

I phoned #Teksavvy and got through to a human pretty quickly. They asked me to try a few things, then determined it was a problem with Bell's wire. So they arranged for Bell to come.

While here, the #Bell technician offered me a deal to switch back. And it seems like a good price.

But Teksavvy doesn't fob me off on a chatbot. So score one for customer service. I'm sticking with them.

  11. @vocalone if you want cheap reliable internet service, best to move to an advanced civilization, like Romania 😔

In my experience with #teksavvy, while an email to support is often useless, phone calls are handled, and in 9 years of subscribing, the only issues I've had were traced to Bell-Rogers who still own the last mile, because Canada.

If we want better, we need to have more beers with CRTC execs.

  16. My #Teksavvy internet had an outage that started 24 hours ago. It was solved within 12 hours. But now my cable modem won't connect to the internet, despite all my cable swapping and magical incantions.

Someone will come tomorrow to troubleshoot. That's a looong outage for me. Anyone else in #Toronto experiencing this?

  21. Ok, it seems we're getting there. He's stayed extra long to, at least, give me a solution, albeit temporary until #Rogers Maintenance can fix the problem permanently. THE SQUIRRELS HAD CHEWED THRU SOME OF THE CABLES. #toronto #TekSavvy #dailyLife

  30. Not the response I expected from #teksavvy — internet dropped at 13:05 and tech support can only say "if it requires a service call it won't happen today"

    Really?! 😳

  35. My ISP, #TekSavvy, is upgrading my wifi router at no charge to get it ready for services I don't need. The old router will cease to work 30 days from today. It doesn't need to be returned. It's now e-waste. How many thousands of devices are being discarded for the unnecessary and unwanted advancement in technology?

  37. Does anyone have #TekSavvy TV? I'm sick and tired of how crappy the #TELUS TV app is after being forced out of PikTV.

The Apple TV TELUS app is complete garbage, practically unnavigable, and recently requires us to sign in every 24 hours despite the Apple TV having the credentials stored.

We have already have TekSavvy cable for our backup internet to make sure we don't have interruption working from home>

I'm not buying a sketchy Android box and would rather support a Canadian service.

  42. So it turns out that this random high latency issue I've been having since April/May kind of time frame here in #Ottawa on #Rogers infrastructure (actually using #TekSavvy) appears to, in fact, not just be me having the issue. It is impacting everyone in my neighbourhood on the same fibre uplink. Also everyone on the neighbouring box with it's own fibre uplink. So presumably hundreds of people have been impacted for months.

(Graphs from yesterday demonstrating the issue on channel 5 upstream)

  46. Sucessful native IPv6 setup with #Teksavvy over Bell Fibre and an EdgeRouter, something Bell has no interest in.

If you believe in telcom competition, support the last independent nation wide Indie ISP.

Good indie ISPs exist but only in certain buildings in certain cities.
