    “Closer” - Tegan & Sara

“It wasn't necessarily even about hooking up or admitting your feelings. It was the anticipation of something MAYBE happening that was truly exciting and satisfying. We were perpetually getting CLOSER, yet we rarely got physical with one another, if ever. These relationships existed in a state of sexual and physical ambiguity.” -Tegan

  13. #KathleenHanna, #TeganAndSara, More Back #InternetArchive in $621 Million Copyright Fight

Over 300 artists signed #FightForTheFuture's open letter opposing the major label-led litigation over the Archive's preservation of #78rpm records

by John Blistein, December 9, 2024

"Kathleen Hanna, Tegan and Sara, and #AmandaPalmer are among the 300-plus musicians who have signed an open letter supporting the Internet Archive as it faces a $621 million copyright infringement lawsuit over its efforts to preserve 78 rpm records.
The letter, spearheaded by the digital advocacy group Fight for the Future, states that the signatories 'wholeheartedly oppose' the lawsuit, which they suggest benefits '#ShareholderProfits' more than actual artists. It continues: 'We don’t believe that the Internet Archive should be destroyed in our name. The biggest players of our industry clearly need better ideas for supporting us, the artists, and in this letter we are offering them.'

"Palmer, in a statement shared with Rolling Stone, says, 'It’s an ironic gut punch to musicians and audiences alike to see that the Internet Archive could be destroyed in the name of protecting musicians. For decades, the Internet Archive has had the backs of creators of all kinds when no one else was there to protect us, making sure that old recordings, live shows, websites like #MTVNews, and diverse information and culture from all over the world had a place where they’d never, ever be erased, carving out a haven where all that creativity and storytelling was recognized as a critically valuable contribution to an important #historic #archive.”

  18. But when they love me, I feel like I'm floating
When they call me pretty, I feel like somebody
Even when we fade eventually, to nothing
You will always be my favorite form of loving

  19. I'm waiting for the storms to pass before I hop back on the radio, but in the mean time, I'm listening to a (new to me) record by Tegan and Sara, called "This Business of Art"

I picked it up last night, along with The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack 👀😍

  20. I just finished watching High School, the Tegan and Sara biography series, and guys, it is so good! It’s such a great 90’s coming of age/family drama. The show switches perspectives, revealing rich and complex characters, all trying to figure out their way in the world. I hope they get to do a Season 2.
It’s on Amazon FreeVee, but I would probably buy a physical copy too if I could. #HighSchool #teganandsara

  21. Today's post is a look back at the Juno Awards that were handed out on the weekend in one of my favourite cities anywhere: Halifax, N.S.!!! This post will examine the history of the awards and highlight some of the veteran musicians who shone brightly there. Part-II: next Tuesday.

  22. CW: "Closer" - Tegan & Sara

The lead single from "Heartthrob", "Closer" confirmed the duo's transition from folksy-singer-songwriters into a sleek disco machine. A late-70s synth riff announces the song, it cuts through clutter on the dancefloor and on the radio.

And then we're into a dreamlike space, playful and energetic and with a wistful romance, and the prospect of something more.

  24. Really fun list of great TV you should be watching by @sepinwall - a bunch of my own fave shows are in there… but I’m particularly happy to see High School make people’s Best Of lists, that one was a surprising standout for me, and you can watch it free with ads right now via Amazon’s FreeVee channel. Enjoy!

  25. Moved to my own instance from @faevourite so reposting an #introduction.

I live in #Barrie #Ontario #Canada now, but will forever be a #Toronto fan. Currently into rock #climbing, #running, and #LearningGuitar. I watch and listen to too much #DnD, but rarely play.

I'm also a #backend systems engineer at a #HealthTech startup, dipping my toe into #SRE and #ResilienceEngineering. Posts about that, #IndieWeb, #VideoGames, and, let's be honest, #TeganAndSara. Anyway, hi. 👋
