Finally beginning to see the bigger changes I expected from giving up alcohol. One year in. It takes that long. Mainly physical, but also psychological.
Although I miss some aspects of drinking I can now clearly see the benefits of stopping: but I haven’t turned into an anti-drink crusader. I feel bizarrely at peace with it. I’d been drinking a long time, but like giving up tobacco it’s never too late I guess.

#ProTipForNewPlayers #Pachli shows days since a post and i like all the tabs. This is relevant because: 25 days i ago I posted I hadn't had a drink in 3 days (I don't count days in #recovery as I normally won't last a week). So 4 weeks, that's like unheard of in this century. There have been some moods and arguments and failed #vibecoding and other stupid shit done. There are now two other gluten free alcohol free beers!
We've been enjoying SOBAH's Non Alcoholic Davison Plum GF Pale Ale for a while now and sometimes they do the Wattleseed as GF too. They're an indigenous run company in Queensland and great, but not always easy to get in Western Australia.
BUT breaking news here in Western Australia let me introduce you to a Western Australian brewery who is doing not one, but two gf and non alcoholic beers.
They do a bunch of alcoholic gf beers too, but that's not of interest to us, you can check them out if you want.

Just ghost the party. Slip away, go to bed. It’s cool! Everyone’s been drinking and they won’t remember that you weren’t there till the bitter end!
If you say goodbye, they try and go, ‘Nahhhh stayyyy!’ Just vanish.
This will also stop you from being waylaid/presumed upon when all those close talkers start puking and having dramas because they say stupid things, and you’re delegated the role of mediator.

And then you deliver. You just have to reassure them that you are a) not on the outside of their bubble of festivity, and b) not judging them.
That can be tough! Especially after like, 9pm when everyone’s close-talking and repeating everything. Your friends are all suddenly less amusing than they think. People go ON and ON.
BUT that’s where tip 2 comes in handy…

I live in the most isolated capital city in the world, #Perth , and therefore on Whadjuk #noongar boodja. I pay my respects to the traditional custodians of the land, and their Elders - past, present, and emerging.
I am male (he/him), and married to the amazing artist @leece .
I have been a #Linux #Sysadmin for most of my professional life, and use Linux or derivatives exclusively at home.
For fun, I play #rpg games, and #boardgame . I also swim as a #mermaid (well, mer-dude), and ride a three-wheeled human-powered vehicle called a Me-Mover. I have a Hobie Outback pedal-powered kayak, which takes me back to my past as a Sea Scout on the Swan. I enjoy playing with #lego, #cooking, #preserving, and many, many other things.
I am #teetotal (and have been all my life) but love making mixed drinks, and have an extensive #zeroproof bar.
I am an amateur #photographer without any particular speciality, but I do particularly like taking shots of #birds (especially #raptors ), and other mer-folk. I also enjoy shooting #pinhole B&W, and play with in-camera #cyanotype (about which I have written extensively on my blog) . To round things out, I take quite a few #solargraph images.
For the past few years, I have been learning Nyoongar (primarily the Marribank).
