The business world is crafted to make any indie/DIY online business task frustratingly near-impossible. I'm very stubborn though. Setting up in-app USPS API shipping, for example. Yeah, I could use third-party, but f*ck those money-skimming data whores. 2 mos. of bureaucracy & I'm almost there. I'd like to congratulate USPS on not being rife with AI chat bots that get nothing accomplished. I actually email back & forth with flesh & blood people. Hooray! #techrant #indie #smallbusiness

POV: It's 2 am. Windows decides NOW is update time. You didn't ask. You set Active Hours. Doesn't matter.
"We'll restart in 15 minutes."
You have:
- 47 browser tabs open
- Unsaved work from 4 hours ago
- A Zoom meeting in 6 hours
- Pure, unfiltered rageMicrosoft: "We're helping! 🙂"
There IS a way to update Windows without the psychological warfare.

My relationship w/Odoo is tumultuous. He's needy & there's times when we have problems & can't find the right words to articulate the problem. I find plenty of bad relationship advice online from other broken-hearted, frustrated users. Sometimes there are success stories and I'm jealous. We can be at odds for days and days, and it's utter hell. And then finally I find the right thing to ask & he opens up & we fall in love again. Unfortunately, no makeup sex.

Stop treating APIs as an afterthought. They're the foundation of modern workflows.
Who else is tired of fighting with vendor APIs?

Rant time!
I still think so and will say it again:
Most phone apps are replacable with pen and paper. Rest of the apps rarely really need internet acces.
If you develop something that can be done using notebook (the analog kind) then dont. Focus on something that makes sense digitally.
If you develop something that uses the net ask why it needs it?
...also when did we start to call programs apps?
Rant over!...for now...

I'm trying to get rid of Ubuntu
So if your software is available only in a Snap
I'm not going to get it
I can see why that might not bother you
But it's pissing me off that I can't find your competitors
Because your SEO game is too good
And you refuse to have your software available on Linux in a reasonable way

What are some software annoyances that make no sense still existing in 2025?
I'll start:
How is there no "Switch default account" button for Google accounts still? If you use more than 1 Google account (YouTube, Gmail, Calendar, etc) and want to change which account is automatically loaded, then you need to log out of all your accounts and then make sure that the first one you log back into, is the one you want as your default. -

Another year, another 'best microSD cards' list. This time, Engadget's looking at 2025, and surprise, surprise: the Nintendo Switch 2 is pushing new, expensive microSD Express cards. Because who doesn't love paying a premium for a new 'standard' your old gear probably won't use? What tech standard are you *still* annoyed about upgrading for?

A curse on all those who generate JSON data with subfielded keys.
...I'm looking at you Dell PERC, with all your "Drive /c0/e32/s9 - Detailed Information" nonsense. - I KNOW what the device attachment is (I GAVE you that on the command line), what I want is CONSISTENT key names I can use JQ to filter on (This key should be "Drive Detailed Information" - or something even LESS of a mouthful).

I miss the olden days of Windows Media Player 9. Minimalist and practical.
Spotify UI is close to unbearable to me nowadays. Sluggish and heavy.
